Nonverbal Impressions al Affiliation To begin with, in a scenario of being a new employee and my core objective is to cultivate positive influence and to get my fellow colleagues and employers to like and be positively regarded by my presence, I would deploy affinity seeking strategies so as to effectively create a positive personality theory impression. To achieve this, I would create, harness, and maintain a positive face. Depicting a positive face would include a respectful talk to my fellow colleagues and bosses including giving everyone complete attention in case they address issues I’m concerned with or tasks I should undertake. I would as well deploy nodding of the head to affirm that I’m not only listening but also concurring with what is being addressed. I would as well wear a smiling face to show enthusiasm, optimism and warmth cooperation. In this context, I would avoid a negative awful face since this would negatively paint me as a low self-esteemed employee. I would also avoid rude and disrespectful conversational phrases and high pitched speaking tones which would portray an authoritative, disrespectful and rude individual. I would also evade ignoring peoples’ comments and paying attention to distractions which can be evidenced by staring away from the speaker or receiving calls on mobile when a colleague is addressing an issue (DeVito, 2005). Second, in a scenario where I’m addressing an audience, and I would like the personal experiences that I’m addressing to be believed, I would deploy a consistency impression. For instance, to be believed by the audience, both the theme of the speech, actions and words of the speaker must not only portray credibility strategies such as charisma, competence, and impressive character but also a touch of modesty and honesty. In this context, I would give a glimpse of my competence such as my academic qualifications and key academic courses that I undertook to be an expert in my field. I would as well give examples of instances when I displayed fairness, justice or concern to the destitute as an avenue of emphasizing on my excellent character. I would as well extrapolate an enthusiastic, positive character to impart charisma in my personality. I would hence project a confident gait, poised speech, and upright posture. I would evade using negative impressions which taint my character such as the tantrums I portrayed in my teenage days. I would as well evade over emphasizing on my competence, character and charisma since this would portray an opposite effect and a shouting character encompassed by a lack of those traits (DeVito, 2005). Third, having undertook my midterm exams and from the overall assessment of the exam I develop a conviction that failure is inevitable, I would hence deploy a recency effect impression. This can be related to an event which transpires almost immediately before a test and which attributes to failure of the test. For instance, In this context I would deploy self-handicapping strategies such as giving an account of attendance to a birthday party few hours before the exam which indirectly leads to my failure due to lack of adequate study time. This would emphasize on lack of adequate study time other than my incompetence. In this scenario, I would use honest, empathetic face to portray honesty. I would evade using same self-handicapping strategies that I could have had deployed earlier on a similar predicament to avoid a portrayal of incompetence, naivety, and foolishness (DeVito, 2005). Fourthly, to secure help on a computer task that would indeed take me hours to wind up, I would deploy attribution of control impression. In this context, I would unravel an aspect of my incompetence or inability to handle the task. For instance, I may give an excuse that my former computer which I was used to got lost and the new computer being used has complex procedures and instructions which I do not understand. I would as well deploy an empathetic face and low toned humble voice. This will prompt the other person to move in and offer a helping hand. I would evade portraying my incompetence as a way to invite other people to do my own push ups for me (DeVito, 2005). Fifth, to hide faults in a scenario where I lack the vast computer skills highlighted in my resume, I would deploy a personality theory halo impression. To achieve this, I would deploy self-monitoring strategies such as tailoring my words and actions so as to portray competence. I would evade monologues and carefully unravel my positive attributes while carefully hiding my unpleasant attributes. In this context, to avoid being detected, I would evade exaggerating the self-monitoring strategies since this may paint me as an untrustworthy and dishonest imposter (DeVito, 2005). In addition, to be followed by the masses and with a core objective of being seen as an influential leader and coerce the masses to elect me as their leader, I would deploy a self-fulfilling prophecy impression. In this context, I would act and talk in consistence with facets of influence, power, and control. I would, for instance, address the masses and affirm my information and expert power I would as well make a bold move by justifying my right to lead other people by virtue of the fact of my position as an expert in a certain area of influence such as a political analyst. I would as well commence my public address speech with an emphasis of my past experiences and my excellent successes. To effectively deploy this strategy, I would evade an impression of trying to lure the masses for my personal gains since this would sway the masses away (DeVito, 2005). Lastly, to confirm self-image by trying to appease and convince my colleagues that I am fun but a dedicated employee, I would deploy a personality halo effect impression. In this context, I would blend a funny character by telling amusing, humorous jokes often and a committed and dedicated attitude to my job by ensuring I beat deadlines and my tasks are perfectly and efficiently done. I would blend in with amusing facial looks when the need be and blend this funny character with a touch of commitment and excellence.
