In light of the growing dominance of B2B e-business and the low success that companies achieve by implementing this technology, a company can attain a significant level of competitive advantage over the rival companies if it can achieve greater overall business success. That is precisely the reason behind academic scholars becoming interested in investigating factors that can explain ways in which companies achieve greater e-business success. Researches that have tried to provide an explanation to this question are provided by academic scholars who studied the capability of information technology and the competence of e-business over the last decade or so.

Considering the resource-based perspective, Bhardwaj (2000) has extended the conventional idea of organizational capabilities to a company’s IT-related function as well as proposed and defined the notion of IT capability, thereby suggesting the relevance of deploying resources based in IT and several other approving resources. Bhardwaj (2000) regarded the capability of IT to be an organizational capability and on the other hand, Ravichandran and Lertwongsatien (2005) regarded the same to be an integral part of an organization’s core IT functional areas such as system development, IS planning, IS support and operations.

According to Eikebrokk and Olsen (2007), who addressed IT capability in e-business settings, e-business competency is necessary in order to attain e-business success. Although a range of IT capabilities has been considered as critical for acquiring superior quality IT assets, Zhu (2004) narrowed down the focus onto e-commerce functions such as transactions, information, customization as well as back-end integration. Barua, Konana, and Whinston (2005) had greatly emphasized the impacts of IT integration.
