Topic:  Critical Essay on Book Core Curriculum Guidelines Introduction The book here is about what the court leaders should know and be able to do. It is a very essential thing to know about court leader’s structure of working and their capacity to cater to the needs of people. The book has a complete introduction of the court management and the guidelines to understand the system of working or working pattern of court managers. The court working pattern consists of cash flow management, leadership enhancement, visioning and strategic planning, court community communications, and information about a resource, finance and budget, human resource management, education, training and development, and information technology management. A court leader should know all these aspects in order to function properly in court arena. This book is concise in this matter and has given all subjects in the abstract and introduction for the readers to have a glimpse on. The introduction of the book is starting itself with a diagram and figures, which is very helpful to the reader in understanding the subject matter more vividly. One of the elaborate diagrams in the beginning is giving all information in a concise form about the purpose and responsibilities of the court leaders. The introduction of the book is mainly about what the competency of court leaders is? And why it is important? However, the figure will be more appealing in the body of the book rather than in the introduction. It is felt that the introduction of the book is more than needed in volume. The introduction should always be compact and the body should be elaborate for a book. The criticizing of the body of the book a) Case flow Management: Case flow management is the most important part in the profession of court leaders. To manage the flow of a case, a court leader requires many skills, abilities and knowledge. The book is very informative on this aspect. The book is right by letting readers know that the knowledge of a case is very important to court leader while working on a case. The book further explains the knowledge and responsibilities of a court leader in relation to handling a case in the court. The book depicts many points on this issue which is very important in enabling readers to understand the subject. The book also suggests the trial management and social justice application in a court case. b) Leadership: Here the book should have initiated with explaining the leadership in general as some people do not have real knowledge about the term “leadership.” Sometimes the readers can be less educated and knowledgeable; in that case it might help them. Otherwise the section is well explained. In the leadership section, the core competency of the court leader is also explained. Here not only leadership is explained in relation to court, but the effective leadership qualities are explicated to make more out of the court leaders. This is a very informative point on which junior court leaders can work. There are many useful points in the leadership section which can help the reader in understanding the origin of real competency in their profession. c) Vision and strategic planning: Vision and strategic planning is part of any court leader’s professional practice. Formerly, for this the aim of the job needs to be looked into, and then the strategy or plan to achieve it should be analyzed. The court leader should also have awareness of his/her environment in which they are working. All this is done to assess the future and know what all steps need to be taken to achieve their goal as a court leader when handling the case. This aspect is explained well in the notebook and this is a necessary part of any court leader’s job. There is also a figure which explains the elements in a vision and strategically based step. This part is perfect. d) Essential Components: Essential components start with the introduction of the nature of work of court leaders. Here, the several types of essential components are also mentioned. There are four essential components in case handling and this is mentioned well in the body of the book. Sometimes it looks like there is repetition of information. Information should not be overloaded; otherwise, it can make readers feel redundant. Moreover, every element is very elaborately explained in the book which is not necessary. It would have been better if there had been a conclusion of this portion of the essential components explanation section. e) Court Community Communication: In the case of court leaders, there is also a way in which the court leaders should communicate. Here this section in the body of the book elaborates on the communication method and style of a court leader. The opening sentence of this section is very attractive, which goes “people don’t trust what they don’t understand.” That means communication needs to be perfect for people to trust it. Here a quote made by an important personality is also projected in order to portray the importance of communication clarity in the justice department. The writing in the body of the text in the area of communication suggests that a court leader to be effective needs to be good in understanding their clients and communicating with them. f) Resource, Budget & Finance: The introduction of this section is about the acquisition, allocation and management of the court’s budget. This kind of opening in the introductory part of a section is very useful to the readers. This is because the court’s budget is an important part of court’s management and working. Then the body of this section explains the functions of the court’s budget and its use. This is the strength of this section as readers need to know the use of the court’s budget and its resources in a proper manner by reading the book. g) Human Resources Management: Human resource management is all about the working pattern and infrastructure of the personnel of an organization. This area is described in a well defined form in the text book. This section explains what kind of people is needed by the court. The section also explains the recruitment process of the court and the gain it receives from having a planned and well defined human resource department. This section is well explained as it has given much importance to the subject. This is because human resource is pivotal to any organization or enterprise. It also explains the changing environment of the court atmosphere which is additional information to the readers. g) Education, Training & Development Every organization has an education, development and training department to train and develop their personnel in order to make them effective and efficient. The introductory part explains the use of training and development. This is very effective and different points as to the service and public satisfaction are explained. Later the nature of training to be given is explained, which is very helpful to the readers who are training managers and training personnel. In the concluding part, the evaluation of the training is also elaborated. h) Information Technology Management This section is started by explaining the difficulty in using computer as a tool. This is a reality as information technology means the computer and Internet usage. There is no theory to it, but the computer needs to be used by the user efficiently to receive the end result. This section describes the ease of using a computer and the benefits of the computer to the court. Conclusion Towards the conclusion, the book describes the prime authors and guideline development process. The book mentions that the prime author of the book is a project director. There is also explanation about the projects which usually the court leaders undertake. Here it is described what a project is. What is the nature of it? There are different points under project heading which describes the project and its uses to court leader. This is very helpful for the court leaders understand what the purpose of the project is. There are many subjects described under this heading and a court leader needs to understand every point one by one. The next section describes the NACM/PDAC oversight and different specialists involved in the compiling of the book. Anyway, the complete book is worth reading and more information is passed on to the court leaders to achieve their goal and objectives. This book is a must and is going to be very useful to the court leaders. The book is explaining all parts of a court leader’s job and capabilities and skills needed by him in progressing in his field .However, there are some points lacking like what are the ideal skills of a court leader and what he must stay away from doing in order to save his career.
