The event which was attended by over 750 employees was aimed at increasing employee sensitivity and awareness of differences across genders, sexual orientation, cultures and religious backgrounds (Ashkanasy. et. al, 2011).The company has a clear mission and values. The founders came up with ten tenets that have served as grounding values for the firm. The list includes tenets like, “It’s best to do one thing really, really well” and “Fast is better than slow.” that have shaped the company’s culture over the years.

The company values innovation which is deeply rooted in its blood and it offers purpose in the office as well as aligning every employee’s decisions with a simple yet collective vision. The fact that the company has a clearly articulated mission that is well communicated to the employees cultivates an intentional culture in which the employees know why they do what they do and love what they are doing.Google views its Human resource department as a scientific department by using numbers to maximize the potential of their employees.

The department has been termed as The People Operations Department owing to the fact that the company uses data and other analytics to make the most accurate decisions on managing its employees. From retention algorithms that predict which employees are most likely to leave the company, to studies revealing the optimal size and shape of cafeteria tables, Google knows how to gauge its personnel’s efficiency with hard, rounded numbers. Google is ranked as one of the best employers in the United States due to its scientific approach to the management of human resources.

The company has adopted a hiring process that ensures it acquires the best and the brightest of the applicants. It receives over one million applications every year and ends up employing only 0.5% of the applicants.
