Implementing Organizational Change: Dunphy and Stace’s Four Levels of Change Implementing Organizational Change: Dunphy and Stace’s Four Levels of Change There are various levels of change that takes place within companies. Each stage is more difficult than the other and requires more meticulous management. Fine tuning is the step and involves adjusting processes, developing the employees. This process is comparatively easy however, it may attract resistance from the employees. The second stage is incremental adjustment and it may include various activities such as reallocating staffing, correcting defective processes within the company and changing emphasis by the business.

This is mainly carried out by facilitators that have appropriate training in working with teams (Lune, 2006). The third stage is process reengineering. In this stage it is assumed that incremental changes have a minimal impact, important improvements may be attained by disregarding how the process is undertaken during the present and starting on a clean slate. The final stage is the corporate transformation that is more drastic and involves changes that affect the organization in general. It may include acquisitions and mergers.

One of my peers posted an article on Tichy’s three types of change. The article stated that any change within an organization was caused by changes in the technical, political and cultural aspects. This article was properly researched however failed to take into account the stages of change within an entity (Lune, 2006). The other article was on Balogun and Hope-Hailey’s Change Model. This model states that there are four types of change within organizations that take four strategies into account.

Two classifications are based on the end result and include realignment and transformation. The other two classes are based on nature of change and include big bang and incremental change. ReferenceLune, H. (2006). Understanding organizations. Polity.
