Movie Reviews Strawberries and Chocolate is a Cuban film that presents some vivid portrayal of sexuality issue in the society. The comedy- drama film revolves around the lives of David and his new friend Diego (Merlino, 1999). David’s life is on a negative spiral and he comes across Diego at a park. He is initially convinced that Diego is gay and ponders spying on him as well as exposing Diego for harboring forbidden pleasures in his house such as magazines and whiskey. The moral struggle in the film rests in David’s dilemma as to whether to expose his new friend for open criticism of the current regime and possession of illegal materials or be lenient as he also pursues his interests. As he grows attached to Diego, he becomes lenient and also pursues a love interest-Diego’s neighbor.
The Seventh Seal movie is a drama based on the medieval crusade times where the main character, Antonious Bloch faces many hurdles in his life. After he comes back from the crusades, he realizes that there is famine and plagues in his homeland and there is a man (Death) on his trail to kill him (SDG, 2005). Block challenges his assassin to a game of chess where the stakes are high. If block loses, he dies and if he is wins all is well with him and his family. There is a strong message in the film and a moral struggle between doing what is right for oneself and the interests of others. The game of chess decides the outcomes of individual’s lives(Young, 1960. This, in itself, is a moral contentious issue as the stakes are too high to be decided by individual’s game knowledge.
Ashes and Diamonds concern the plight of Maciek, a young polish right-wing army man who is instructed to assassinate the new communist secretary (Bradshaw, 2009). He attempts but fails in his first trial, causing the death of two civilians. He tries again but he is not convinced he is doing the right thing. He falls in love with a girl at the hotel where the communist frontrunner stays. He eventually manages to kill the leader but also dies from wounds from a gunshot he sustained (Malcolm, 1999). The moral struggle in this film is portrayed in the conscience of the young soldier. He is not convinced that killing the communist secretary is appropriate and according to his principles. However, as an army officer, he is obligated to follow the orders he is given, killing the communist official.
Zhang Yimou’s Red Sorghum is a chines film that covers the chines cultural revolution during the periods of 60s and 70s. It entails the story of a young poor girl who is married off by her parents to an old man who had leprosy but also owned a vineyard (Ebert, 1989). When the old man dies, she takes over the vineyard and worked to elevate the status of the vineyard as it was dwindling. Later on, Japanese invaders cause havoc by using forced labor from the vineyard and killing people. The works resist and the girl plays a big part in the resistance. The moral struggle is whether to pursue the current interests of the individuals while their lives are at risk. There is need for a revolution but it bears significant consequences as the Japanese are brutal and lives are at stake.
Pather Panchali is an Indian film that largely dwells on the life of Brahmin family. They nave many struggles to get through as they are poor. The family is composed of the father, Harihar, his wife and ardent provider Sarbajaya, their mischievous daughter Durga, their young son Apu and their aged aunty Indir Takrun (Crowther, 1958). The family gets through with few alternatives especially after Harihar disappears and Durga gets sick. The moral struggle is mostly in Sarbajaya who has to provide for her family and maintain the dignity of her family despite Durga’s theft endeavors and Harihar’s disappearance. Movie Review

...?Movie Review: Darwin’s Nightmare There are two things which struck me instantly about this documentary, the first one undoubtedly being its But the second and more disheartening of the two is the nonchalance of the people of Mwanza, Tanzania who are portrayed in the movie. The film as we see is shot in such a way that the camera constantly shifts focus from person to object to activity to landscape which is exactly how the people featured in it seem to convey their thoughts and emotions (or the lack of it). This I think is the most haunting aspect of the film, the strong and unmistakable undertone of insouciance of which I will come back to a bit later. The plot revolves around different...

Movie Review of 2 Dance Sequences from Chicago

...?Movie Review of 2 Dance Sequences from “Chicago” What is wonderful about watching a musical, be it on stage or on film, is that all of the actions depicted are meant to help advance the plot of the story in such a way that the audience is not told about it but rather shown. By doing so, the audience has a more enjoyable time watching the story unfold before them. One of the movies that successfully uses dance in order to advance its story plots, and also explain what is happening in a scene to the viewers if the movie “Chicago”. Take for example the highly detailed dance sequence for “Cell Block Tango” helped us understand the fear and mindset of Roxie...

In actual sense, Paul is seen to behave as if avenging on the killing and rape of his wife and daughter respectively (Brian and Winner, 2003). 2) Think of New York as a character in the...
