JOURNALING- MEDITATION Journaling- Meditation Monday, March 31, Today I set an intention to ride my bike mindfully. I normally ride my bicycle after school as way of exercising and releasing the day’s stress. This evening I set to ride the bicycle along the road that leads to the woods surrounding our home. I started by pedaling slowly and gained momentum as I continued. Then, a thought flashed in my mind regarding my English teacher, Mrs. Amanda. She was so moody today and did not entertain our usual jokes. The fact that Mrs. Amanda is always jovial; yet she was a little bit disturbed and appeared harsh today bothered me. I kept asking myself what might have been wrong with her. Something within me kept telling me something was amiss. Suddenly, when I heard hoots and brakes’ screeching is when I realized that I was so engrossed in my thoughts and I was almost being ran over. I quickly grabbed my bicycle brakes and came to a sudden halt; almost falling down. It is when I realized I had gone extremely far from home without noticing. I changed my course, and decided to ride back home. Tuesday, April 1, 2014 Today I meditated on being grateful for my bike. I got the bike as a present from my dad for my exemplary performance in school. I had always wished to own one and every day after school, I would drop off my school bag in my room and rush to Tom’s house, my neighbor and friend, in order to ride his bike. I adore my bike so much. Apart from exercising using it, sometimes I save my parents the pressure of dropping me to school when they are running late for work. Sometimes I wonder what I would do if sometime stole it; I guess I would be sick for a week. When sent on short errands such as buying groceries from the store, my bike usually plays an integral since it enables me take shortest time possible; thus, making my parents proud of me. In case I am stressed or bothered about something, taking a ride in the woods near my home always gives me amazing refreshment. A two-hour ride and I go back home rejuvenated and feeling better. My bike is a gem to me. Wednesday, April 2, 2014 Today I practiced meditating when taking a shower. A warm shower in the morning is the best way to jumpstart one’s day. While enjoying the warm water hit my back, I reminded what my History teacher told us in class yesterday about respecting and appreciating our parents. I could not help thinking of what I could do without my mum and dad. My thoughts wondered how they are always there for me. They comfort and encourage me every time I am worried about something. They have always provided me with everything I need and sacrificed a lot to take me to a good school. My heart filled with intense emotions at these thoughts. At that moment, I felt like hugging both of them. Suddenly, I heard my mother’s voice calling me from the kitchen, “My dear, breakfast is ready.” Oh, I was going to be late for school. I grabbed my towel, and rushed to my room to get dressed up for school. Thursday, April 3, 2014 Today I felt I should re-watch the movie, “Three idiots”. The movie gives me thrills every time I watch it despite the fact that I have watched it several times. The characters are extremely startling and funny. When watching the movie, I was engrossed to it as if I was watching it for the first time. I could not even stand my younger brother playing around my room since I did not want to miss any single word being said. Laughing all through the movie I kept wondering how the script writer and the directors of the movie managed to pull that off. It is humorous and captivating from the beginning. After I finished watching the movie, I could not help thinking how a character like Rancho could behave in real life. He is a cheeky student, but a genius who has the interests of everybody at heart. If the world had several people with the same qualities like Rancho, then it would have been transformed to the best. I pictured myself being him and how I would use my wit to help people. My mum’s voice calling my name that dinner was ready woke me up from my contemplations. Arising, I joined my family for dinner. Friday, April 4, 2014 Today I practiced meditating while having a massage at a Bob’s spa. The masseuse was doing what she is good at. The pain and fatigue that had preoccupied my mind and body slowly left every minute my hands and legs were touched. The relaxation provided me with a deep sense of easiness that could I not stop thinking of what motivated the person who came up with the idea of massager and massage parlors. The masseuse talked to me nicely asking me how my week was and how I was doing at school. While still lying with my face downwards, my thoughts wandered how the massage therapist had a gift of touch and that she had actually settled for the right profession. Enthusiastic about being a lawyer, I also wished it was my right profession and my calling. My thoughts were interrupted by the massager telling me that my session was over. One hour had gone so fast. To me, it was as if I had just spent ten minutes in there. Saturday, April 5, 2014 Today I practiced meditating while watching soccer. I was watching a game between Barcelona and Real Madrid with two of my friends in my room. We were having soft drinks and popcorns as we cheered our teams. I was the only one supporting Barcelona while the two were supporting Real Madrid. As the game became interesting and our conversations were reduced to minimal, my mind veered off and I started thinking how football has developed over time. Questions clouded my mind how someone sat down and came up with the idea of people kicking a ball and earning thousands of dollars. I could not stop thinking how millions of people are crazy about this game to the extent that they pay huge amounts of money to go and watch them live. Additionally, I wondered what could drive a normal human being to take away his life just because his team has lost. All these questions kept bothering until I heard the commentator shouting, “Gooooooaaaaaalllllll”. Immediately, I checked the score line and joined the frenzy since my team, Barcelona, had just scored. The score was 1-0 with only five minutes remaining. Sunday, April 6, 2014 Today I felt like I should go for swimming. Swimming has always been one of my favorite pastime activities. This is because it exercises my body as well as cools my body systems whenever the sun is scotching. As I jumped into the pool and felt water splashing, I imagined myself as a fish deep inside the sea. The thought of being at ease and not caring what happened above the water was extremely awesome. I felt as if I was free from the world’s challenges and tribulations. When I reached the other end of the pool, I took some gasps and went back under the water swimming towards the direction I had jumped in. The joy and fun felt by fish when under water continued to preoccupy my mind until I heard someone shouting for help. A young boy had accidently slipped from the shallow end to the deep end. I quickly dived into his direction and took him out of water. The boy’s parents were grateful for saving their boys life. Monday, April 7, 2014 Today I set an intention of washing utensils. This is one of the tasks I abhor; however, I normally do it once in a while to save my mum the tedious task especially when she is working late. I sorted them out, starting with cups, plates and cooking pans. As I grabbed the first cup, I realized it was the cup I have been using since Grade 4. I vividly recalled the way I used to refuse to drink coffee from any other cup until I was served coffee with it. I smiled since I could neither see nor understand what was so special about the cup. Talking to myself, “Kids are just kids.” When I glanced at the sink, my thoughts were interrupted by the rush to close the tap since the sink was full and the water was almost spilling over to the floor. I continued washing the utensils and my mother came before I finished. She helped me arrange the utensils in the shelves and commended me for being a responsible person. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 Today I meditated on being grateful for my cat, Katherine. Katherine is an amazing cat since it comforts me whenever I am lonely and bored. When sleeping in my room, it usually comes and sleeps next to me. This gives me immeasurable joy since it assures me that I am not alone, and I got a shoulder to lean on. Every day after school, it normally comes to me and wags its tail around me while rubbing me with its fur. The thought of her kindness and warmth gives me all the reasons to rush home every day when school is over. This is because I always anticipate being with her and to feed it. During the weekends, I usually tie an inflated balloon to string and run around with it while Katherine chases it. If I notice any slight change in Katherine’s behavior, I always know that something is wrong somewhere; thus, it is trying to alert me. I cannot help but smile every time I think of Katherine. This is because she is like a guardian angel to me. Wednesday, April 9, 2014 Today I felt like visiting the community health facility for the elderly and volunteer with cleaning the rooms. The person in charge directed me to the room of an elderly man who was taken recently to the facility by his children since they were extremely busy with their careers and could not take good care of him. The man’s state of health demanded constant checking to ensure he was okay. Seeing him in that state really bothered me. My mind wondered if there is need to stay alive till certain ages where we depend on people to live. Additionally, I could not stop thinking why the old man’s children could not have hired someone to take care of him at home. In doing that, they could see him regularly and ensure that he is well taken care of. Do people value their careers more than their parents? Several questions to which I could not get their answers lingered in my mind. My thoughts were interrupted by the matron who came into the room to ask whether I have finished. I told her I was almost and she left as I continued with my work. Read More
