177.5 cm (78.7 ? 69.9 in). The painting shows Jesus having worn a bright white loincloth. While Mary has is on one knee facing Christ. She is also wearing a dull white robe and yellow mantle. Mary recognized Jesus. Jesus then told her to not touch him. Mary’s pose indicated her emotion. On the ground where they stood were vegetables. Jesus held a spade in his arm too. Behind Jesus there were trees and a couple of clouds build up in the background. Jesus was tonal variation of light and dark brought about Jesus as the focal point in this painting.
The medium used oil based paint; material used for this painting is made of canvas (Web Museum). The subject represented here is Jesus Christ during his resurrection. Illumination of light coming from him shows him about to ascend into heaven. Apart from this, it was emphasizing Jesus as the subject and focal point in this painting. The analysis of this painting will be based on the time it represents, the baroque period of art. It is a piece work that derives inspiration from the painter; Peter Paul Reuben's style representing the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The painting brought about the theme of Resurrection. The idea was well executed by using a color palette with bright whites, yellows and browns to indicate warmth or illumination of light from Jesus as he ascended into heaven. The light farther explains why the referred to Jesus as the light of the world. Despite the fact that the shrubs and the trees and even Mary Magdalen having been painted in dull colors. The light that is reflected from Jesus seemed to have lightened up the scene (Web Museum).
Visual Elements used the painting has a variety of colors, shapes, tonal value, form, space, lines and texture and for example brown which indicates earth richness of the earth, the light and dark areas showed a contrast between the focal point and the other items in the painting. The line strokes by the brush indicate the distances between the foreground and the background. The lines also gave a good description of texture on the clothes both characters had worn in the painting; Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalen.
The use of color hues in their different saturations also indicates tonal value; how light falls on every item or person in the painting. The circles used in creating soft texture in the painting in general. He was never shy to show the belly fat in women he painted. His approach was unique and very top notch at the time. This is painting is a reflection of events that took place during the resurrection and ascending of Jesus in to heaven. The element that completes the whole picture is the richness of the white color which signifies lightness, purity and this is so because Christ rose up on the third day a pure man (Launceston 28).
The interpretation of painting is the resurrection of Christ Jesus, and the accomplishments of His work on earth, no wonder He told Mary Magdalene not to touch him because He had not ascended to the heavens. (Luke 24:47). The painting also indicated that he had not yet ascended into heaven and it was not appropriate for Him to go to his father as an impure person. The artist implied that Jesus is risen and death had no power ever again over Him (1Corinthians 15:57). The painter indeed did accomplished communication of his message by creating an atmosphere of believe, faith and new testament, in that he indicated just when Jesus had rose from death and was just on His way to the Heavens, therefore stating that there is
