Name Course Tutor Date Public relations definition and elements Public relations encompass the practice of information flow management between an organization and the public. Public relations generally provide organizations of individuals’ exposure to audiences. This is by using news items and public interest that do not often require any form of direct payment. The main aim of public relations’ presence in any organization or a company is to persuade the investors, public, employees, partners and other stakeholders. They persuade them to maintain a giver point of view about the organization or company, its leadership, political decisions or products. Common activities therefore are speaking during conferences, working with the press, winning industry awards and employee communication (Ceylan, 2008). There are key elements of public relations. One of the key elements is counseling. Public relations department provides advice to any organization’s management. This is concerning the organization’s relationships and policies. They help in deciding the way forward during problems or setbacks. The second element is research. They help in determining behaviors and attitudes of the public. They then determine their causes in order to come up with ways or implementing and planning. This includes measuring activities to change or influence behavior and attitudes. The third element is media relations. They direct relations with communications media. This is in seeking publicity and excellent responses to the interest of their company or organization. The fourth element is publicity. They disseminate any earlier planned messages through any selected media without payment. This is aimed at furthering the organization’s interest (Gibson, 2006). The fifth element is community relations. They bring about continuity. They continue, plan and bring about active participation within a community. This helps in maintaining and enhancing its environment to the benefit of the community and organization in general. The sixth element is in employee or member relations. Public relations help in responding to concerns from members and employees. They also inform and motivate the organization’s members or employees. Real world example is for example running an industry. Public relations can be seen. Public relations develop effective involvement with public policy and aid an organization towards adapting to the public expectations. Public relations relate directly with the people on behalf of the organization. This way they can get back to the industry’s management with the public’s opinions (VALJAK, 2012). Roles of public relations in organizations Public relations act as any company’s lifeblood. Whether an organization is private or public, nonprofit or profit, public relations determine its ultimate success. Public relations play immense roles in any organization. One of the key roles is in communication. In organizations, public relations departments help in crafting communications policies. They also help in overseeing the organization’s development of news and statements. Communications need to be clear to ensure that the public find relevancy in it. Problem solving is another key role of public relations. They aid in solving problems. This way, they put an excellent face on the company’s image from the outside. They polish mundane information and transform it to mundane data. This data eventually gives the company more credit than before. The third vital role is in advocacy. Organizations require representatives at the outside phase (Ceylan, 2008). The definition of public relations from the prior discussion applies generally to the practice of public relations. Public relations advocates for the company in international forums. They help in focusing energy on building the company’s image and making the organization to be deemed as of corporate excellence. Public relations in organizations aid in issues management. They help in identifying and addressing all issues of public concern. These way organizations can put the most critical issues before addressing other issues. Public relations also aid in financial relations. They will help in maintaining and creating investor confidence. This is noteworthy since it will lead to building positive relationships with the outside financial community. During momentous events and forums, public relations play immense roles. They help in stimulating interest in a product, a person or an organization. This is by designing a desirable atmosphere used in listening and interacting with the public (JAKOVLJEVIć, 2010). Public relations are the main reason as to why tourism industries have a high success. They create travel and tourism images that attract more tourists. Big organizations for example World Food Program is concerned with distributing food to famine stricken regions in the world. This organization has a public relations department and its main function is in keeping the organization intact. It steers the organization and helps it throughout all the processes involved. This is the reason why World Food Program is the world leading food relief distributor. Case study The organization from the list under discussion is Brisvegas Tourism Board. This board is responsible for promoting tourism is Brisvegas. It also works towards attracting visitors and tourists spending in Brisvegas. The number of tourists has substantially declined. This has therefore impacted negatively in revenue for many businesses in Brisvegas. The board therefore has the task of attracting new travelers from other parts of Queensland and travelers from other states. Public relations can help Brisvegas tourism board to create a desire for Brisvegas in a wide range of travelers in Australia and even beyond. It can also assist the organization to communicate key messages of support, understanding and optimism to business people in Brisvegas. Public relations can also help in reassuring people in Brisvegas that the board understands their concerns and that it is working hard to help in attracting tourists with a view of helping them ahead. Advising the managing director on ways in which public relations can help in addressing existing problems is mandatory. Public relations entail one of the most influential tools of tourism marketing. As its definition states, it works towards establishing an understanding between the public and the operators. There has been an increased competition in the tourism industry. Public relations will help in the creation of awareness of new products or facility for customers. The public relations can come up with images built to change the audience thoughts on Brisvegas. This can be done through print media, word of mouth and changing any attitude of the targeted audience. This has to be done properly in order to ensure that potential tourists notice the difference (VALJAK, 2012). Public relations can help in building images. This can be done by coming up with tourism advertisements and brochures. On display windows of travel agencies and on television, people can be exposed to visuals of excellent exotic destinations. These images can be created by public relations in a bid to improve Brisvegas and attract more tourists. These images can have white sandy beaches and swaying palm trees. These can be situated close to azure blue seas or close to a fine dining at sunset. In order to attract more tourists, public relations can also use the press to advertise. Travel and tourism can take a whole different turn in Queensland and this way using the press will ensure that there is enough exposure to Australia and beyond. Public relations lie in fundamentally the science and art of establishing relationships between organizations and the key audiences involved. They play key roles in helping business industries to create more strong relationships with customers. The public relations department can supervise and assess the public attitudes. They can also chip in support and help in maintaining mutual relations and excellent understanding between organizations and the public view (Milohnic, 2006). This way, public relations will help in reassuring business people in Brisvegas that the tourism board understands their concerns. Public relations will help the public to see that they are trying all means possible to attract more tourists. This is even achievable with showing the public all the laid down strategies developed by public relations that aim at attracting tourists. The most pivotal role of public relations here is to help avert the crisis at hand. This is on the public image. Public image is essential to Brisvegas tourism board. It is also of importance to prominent personalities. This is crisis situations. Agencies related with public relations help in providing essential and timely transmission of information. This information helps in saving the organization’s face. At the end, there will be mutual adoption. It is highly relevant to create every visitor’s perception (VALJAK, 2012). The creation of a positive feeling and perception on holiday destinations is necessary. This is why excellent public relations are required in tourism. An example of a case study is on a country that looks to advertise its tourism sector. Success in the industry depends highly public relations. Restaurants, hotels, attractions, destinations and transportation modes are necessary. All these require effective and strategic public relations in order to be popular and successful among all the tourists. In Brisvegas, the public relations department needs to create highly favorable impressions of all tourism sectors. This way there will be more tourists. Ensuring effective security is also noteworthy. Public relations therefore need to present the tourism board’s plan of ensuring security in the region the entire time. This is a complicated task however it ensures sufficient public attention in tourism. No one must underestimate the power that lies behind public relations (Ceylan, 2008). The most salient thing lies in finding out a reputable company that can offer excellent public relations services. They have to be services that can grab the attention of the public without much effort. References Ceylan, M. (2008). Public Relations as a tool of tourism marketing. California: GRIN Verlag.
