A data collection technique is a method which entails, careful and systematic collection of information. During the research, there are several data collection techniques which can be combined to get the information needed, these are the use of available information such as organization records, articles and books published on the issue and observation either as a participant or non-participant. One can also conduct interviews with key respondents.The researcher can get first-hand information on the current state of things.

It is more reliable and accurate. Interviews are also useful because of the firsthand information got, assessment of whether the validity of the information given can be verified.In observation, the work setting being observed may be customized to suit the information required. The people being observed may behave differently when they know they are being watched (Hawthorne effect). Apart from these weaknesses, the observer may have an observation bias. The interview method has also its weaknesses.

For example, an interviewee may experience difficulty to recall events. All in all these weaknesses can be overcome in the following ways. For observation and interview sources, use of questionnaires can be incorporated also a combination of all these techniques may help to come up with comprehensive information.
