Romeo and Juliet In APA Format William Shakespeare is a household Romeo and Juliet is regarded as the greatest romantic tragedy ever. There is enough food for thought which this novel provides, where do Romeo and Juliet go after their death? Do they go to hell or do they go to heaven? This is a very thought provoking question and it is important to analyze all the important scenes so that a well drawn conclusion can be arrived at. Death imagery and violence are conspicuous at the end of Romeo and Juliet, the lovers end up killing themselves.
As human beings we do not have the right to kill ourselves and it is often said that only weak people commit suicide and the people who do so go straight to hell but Romeo and Juliet were different and it becomes essential to comprehensively analyze the conditions in which they committed suicide. Eternal love is an important theme in the tragedy; Romeo and Juliet become eternal lovers after committing suicide. Modern day lovers look up to Romeo and Juliet and they are idolized even these days this goes to show a lot about their bond and the strength it had.
“If suicide is treated different than murder in the religious judgment, if Juliet gets points off for still being drugged or something, then Romeo still dies with a murder on his hands and blaming it on his victim for pissing him off. If hed been willing to let himself get arrested and take judgment and sentence and get dead that way, instead of being so hell bent on dying next to already dead Juliet, hed have only had one murder.” (Romeo and Juliet) It would have been really easy for William Shakespeare to give the tragedy a really happy ending but he chose not to do so and this is why it is a tragedy.
The tragic hero suffers from excessive pain in a tragedy and Romeo has everything against him in Romeo and Juliet, the family members do not approve of their relationship and it seems that the whole universe is against them. To conclude it is very fair to say that Romeo and Juliet do not go to hell after committing suicide and this is because they had no other options. Taking your own life is a cowardly act but suffering and pain is an integral part of a tragedy and considering the same it is very fair to say that Romeo and Juliet do not go to hell after committing suicide.
Romeo and Juliet have set a benchmark for all lovers in the world and this is an unprecedented achievement.
