The Usage Of Statistics Statistics plays a very significant role in the shaping up of different events which unfold at the national and international fronts all over the world. These usually come out very clearly in the wake of a natural disaster, calamity or an event that sparks off controversy. Different reporters around the world make use of these statistics to spice up the events and others just quote what has been made known to them through different resources. The unethical use of this extravagant provision of statistics also suggests that there needs to be a proper check and balance mechanism in place, one which can suggest which is true and what is not, right from the very onset of an event, calamity or a problematic situation. The lies related with statistics is also true for elections as we saw in the Presidential Elections of the United States and even the ones held in the developing third world nations like India and Pakistan from time to time. The usage of statistics gains significance in the sense that it is held right next to lies and deception. This means that statistics are something that cannot be relied upon in extreme entirety. Another point that can be raised here is the fact that statistics are usually lowered down a bit if a government agency is quoting it but blown out of contexts if a private concern is in charge of making it public. This could be due to the harsh and strict public reaction which the government foresees and tries to lessen but the private parties exploit the very same to gain their personal motives. The popular saying thus comes out clean and clear in front of everyone when such a bureaucratic situation arises and it is best to believe one’s own guts rather than thinking who is right and who just crossed the line. Ethically speaking, the usage of statistics should be made by a governing body which is impartial, does not come under the influence of any individual, political party or pressure group but then again it is very difficult to ensure the same would actually happen. Statistics have a close association with mathematics. In the business world of present times, figures and statistics have attained a very significant position and without their usage, companies can literally become bankrupt and economically unstable. It is the fiscal power that makes the organizations of today stands out from each other. Thus statistics are changed even in the business realms and misquoted at different points in time. The use of statistics is manifold. They are literally used in every software and program of the world, whether this one is operating in an airport or a highway. They cannot be denied of their presence at even the remotest of locations and are made available through the efficient and knowledgeable statisticians. Even in the world of sports, their usage is undeniable and these statisticians and record keepers make sure each and every record on the part of the player or a team for that matter is updated within a matter of seconds. Also the usage of statistics is in wars and weapons that are spread all over the world now and can be easily traced with different computer programs and software which only deal in these statistics and nothing else. It is the human being that understands these statistics and thus acts upon them, bringing and carrying out orders after they understand what is the scene on hand. statistics is taught as a completely different module to the business students and they are imparted of the knowledge concerning this subject so that they comprehend the actual importance of the same as well as employ it in this business world. A number of different permutations and combinations can be used effectively and efficiently with the help of statistics as the latter understands what they are all about and thus deduce the actual results in the light of the very same. The general need for the statistics is understood by all and sundry, however more emphasis should be made on the benefits that are attained from it and thus experiments and research holds the key or its proper employment and usage in the business world of present times as well as the future. For me, Karl Pearson is a name to reckon with, within the world of statistics. He was renowned for his work in the field of statistics and because of this his contributions are accounted for in his different papers and essays that have been written concerning his work. The development of statistics in the fields of mathematics, biology, medicine, social history and anthropometry are accredited on the shoulders of Karl Pearson. He was also the founder for the journal Biometrika where the main intention was to show the development of statistical theory more than anything else. He continued to edit this journal until his death. Karl Pearson’s work is something that people can take a leaf out of, in the related fields and he must be hailed for his contribution to the mathematical statistics. I relate to his work and especially in the field of mathematics where he broke immense grounds. My perception about the world of statistics has changed ever since I became an active member of this education. I have envisioned myself to follow in the steps of Karl Pearson for a long time now. In the end, it would be wise to sum up the paper by stating that statistics is basically a discipline which is concerned with designing experiments and other data collection forms as well as summarizing specific information which aids one in helping to understand what it is all about. Apart from this, statistics also assists in drawing conclusions from the available datum or the data, which is the raw part (usually not information). Last but not the least, statistics helps one in estimating and calculating approximately when he or she can predict about the future or the present as well. Bibliography Leonard, William R.
