Saguaro National Park Symbolism is a commonly used device in art, literature and many other aspects of humanlife. As for Saguaro National Park, there are many acts of symbolism that can be identified through its analysis. Starting from the name of the park, Saguaro someone can easily notice that the name was given the design and not just a random name. Saguaro is the name of a type of cactus that is very common in this area. The park was given this name because of the fact that it has a very high number of Saguaro cactuses within it. The Saguaro cactuses were so many that the local people started identifying this place by its abundance in these plants. In the park there are a number of other types of cactuses such a barrel, prickly pear, Cholla. However, the Saguaro cactus is the most outstanding among the cactuses found in this park. The division of the park into two districts must have been intended for the sake of identifying places in the national park using the elevations that are in this desert. The national park happened to have elevations, some in the east and some in the western side. It is easier to identify a certain location using the elevations. However, the use of the western elevations or the eastern elevations would not have been as easy as naming the two sides into different districts. One thing that should be noted is that the mountains in the park such as Mica Mountain, being the tallest in the Rincon Mountain District are distinguishable from a relatively far district. Due to this nature, people do not have to get to certain places in order to know where they are. Using the elevations people can also identify the places that they want to go from a far distance. Saguaro National Park is not very far from Tucson. Just like any other national park, Saguaro National Park was created for enjoyment and educational purposes, with much attention being paid to the preservation of the natural features that are found in the deserts including the Saguaro cactus and wildlife. National parks have a way of protecting nature from human beings for the sake of both human beings and other creatures. People can always visit the park and have a chance of viewing some of the aspects of nature that they do not have a chance of seeing every day. Were it not for the park, maybe some of these aspects would not be existence at the moment. Human beings would have undertaken their economic activities that are known for destroying nature. Things like the giant cactuses which are common in this park would have been very few or even non-existence by now. Even the wildlife living within the park would have been phased out by human activities. However, due to the formation of the park, people from all over the country can always come to the park and have a unique experience with nature. The national park is meant for the purpose of recreation by the American citizens. One of the most common activities in this park is hike. Given the fact that the area is a desert with a number of elevations, this park can be said to be an ideal place for hiking. Both districts are readily open to the public for hiking. The Rincon Mountain District has trailheads towards the east side of the Broadway and the speedway. These features make it easier for visitors to find their way through the park during their hike. Areas where hiking is allowed are keenly selected so that there is no conflict between the wildlife in the park and the hiking visitors. Given the fact that the place is ideal for such an activity, most of the people who go there either use their private transport or go by foot because public transport is not allowed past the park’s entrance. If public vehicles would be allowed past the entry point, then the place would have been less conducive for activities such as hiking. With vehicles constantly passing through the park, people would always have to look out for them, something that would have made the whole experience less interesting to the visitors. The Rincon mountain district has two picnic areas. In order to make the two picnic areas accessible, the district has 13 kilometers loop roads that lead to the two picnic areas. Picnics are quite different from the other activities that are carried out in this park. Picnics usually need a calm, safe, and silent environment. Given the fact that not all the parts of the park had these characteristics, it was important for such places to be set apart for the benefit for those visitors who were just looking for some quiet place that they could relax in. This must have been the reasons that led to the creation of the two picnic areas in the Rincon mountain district. However, accessibility of the two picnic areas was something of high essence. This is the reason as to why the designers of the park saw it necessary to develop loop roads that would take the visitors straight to the picnic areas. This makes the trip to the picnic areas more precisely. This means someone would not have to go through the trouble of trying to locate the picnic area. Neither do they have to decide on which part of the park to have picnics in because the most appropriate parts have already been identified. The Saguaro National Park also happen to have some camp sites where visitors could come for camping and camping related activities. Towards the southern boundary of the Rincon Mountain district, lie the Hope Camp Trails. Visitors can gain access to the Hope Camp Trails at the end of Camino Loma Alta. Given that the road is paved, apart from the final 200 yards, it can be concluded that the developers wanted to make sure that the Hope Camp Trails is easily accessible by visitors. However, the final 200 yards must have been let out because of camping purposes. People usually go for camping with the aim of getting away from the thing that they do on their daily lives and do something that is different from their daily routine. When they get to the final 200 yards they get the feeling that they are going from civilization to the part of the world where they will not have the chance to see the various aspects of civilization that they usually have in their daily lives. This is what usually makes camping more exciting than normal routine activities. This section of the national park was only added in the year 1991. The addition took place after an approval by the congress which led to the acquisition of an extra 1623 ha. This acquisition indicates that the need for a campsite was something that was seen even before camping was introduced in this park. None of the campgrounds are accessible by road making it ideal for camping activities that would have been disrupted by transport activities that would have been common if there were roads passing through or accessing the camping grounds. One of the contributing factors of the visits to this park is the temperature. This area is always hottest during the summer with some of the days recording temperatures of up to 100o C. As for the summer, many people never consider visiting this park because the temperatures are too high. The other reason would be that even those people who prefer high temperatures would be able to get them elsewhere during summer seasons. However, things are always different during the winter seasons when most of the other parts of the country record very low temperatures. People who cannot stand the low temperatures usually prefer visiting places with higher temperatures. In such cases, this park is always a possible destination. Much of this is because during the summer the temperatures are always too high for there to be any kind of enjoyment during this time of the years. When temperatures are lower, people find it easier to have a good time at this park. The months of January, February and March are probably the busiest months for this park. Read More
