The following management essay seeks to analyze a nongovernmental organization how it achieves its mission and vision by managing its team of employee. As an administrator,my work is similar to Chief executive officer in a private company. The Key to Success for Football For you International Football for You International is a nongovernmental organization that helps tap talent in different countries and nurtures football players to learn how to play professionally and also helps in looking for sponsors to build football fields and also supply with the football kits. I serve as the administrator for this organization and my main roles are the day to day management of the firm and also help in sourcing for future business. The mission of this company is to enable the world becomes a better place using football as the theme. The vision is to always tap talents for the youth and ensure that they have something to do this will help psychologically and also financially and this has a ripple effect to other place in the society. By going to different countries, it is able to see what needs to be done to improve the state of football in that country and also see the opportunity that the unique opportunity that the country has. As the administrator, I have to be very fast, flexible and ensure that communication is fast and confidential so as to be able to communicate with others in different sectors to ensure the success of the organization. Sports management is yet to take shape in third world countries and most children who have an interest in football have no place to nurture their dreams. It is also important to note that the football industry is huge and also people aspiring to be football agents, scouts and referees also find a place to learn more about their interest. One of my role as the administrator is to ensure that I organize my team and inform them of any changes within the specified time. My leadership skills should reflect a transparent, fair and honest leader the reason is because most of the funds come from retired football players and for this people to contribute and to believe in my cause my integrity has to be unquestionable. ‘To be able to build this trust with my different stakeholders such as the donors they have to see my performance for the last few years how I have managed to grow the company” (124). Football for you goes beyond borders and there is need to know how to relate to different governments in third world countries where most money is invested in. The project is set in more than a three-term therefore it is good to understand strategic planning. The strategic planning of this firm is well executed in phases the reason is to be able to understand and see the progress and whether the plan is working. Using a PDCA cycle where I as the manager try to understand the Plan, Do, Check and Analyze. With this in mind the strategy is clear that it has to work for the organization to grow. If training is started today the team this includes the board of directors and I need to see what is not working and what is working. ‘With this one can be able to calculate the cost, minimize the losses and save time for future proposals ’(67). Strategic Planning It is also good to prepare the strategic plan in line with the organization culture. As a organization we believe that we are a team of one family and together we share the win and the losses. This culture has been since the founder started it and passed on. It has been one of my roles to keep the fire burning and not lose sight of this. There have been numerous challenges for example last year when our staffs were in Liberia for Talent search and there was Ebola outbreak this really affected us and it was important we stay in touch with them. This we had to ensure immediately they came back there had to visit a good hospital for check up. ‘Having a good team breeds loyal employees who will always have a good perception of the team’(92). There have been numerous challenges in helping solving and ensuring good working conditions for the staff. It is also in the organization culture that we teach our new employee’s n what to expect when they finally start working in the company. I believe it is important for an employee to understand where the company is coming from to be able to understand where the company is heading to. Action Plans There are certain times when implementing action plans are really a challenge to me as the administrator. One of the most possible challenges is trying aligning a specific role to a specific employee without straining them. In an organization like this the funds are not always enough but the responsibilities are many. ‘So as to achieve the best possible outcome I need to minimize the cost without interfering with the action plan may be training the employees while maximizing on the employee capabilities like his talent and his potential’(77). Other issue and consideration when implementing action plans such as the viability of it and also what time to implement the plans .For example when training referee it is always important to first check that no local league are running so as not to interfere also the age of the players is very key and should be done without any favor. Their laws are different in countries and trying to sync the organization laws and the organization requires a lot of consultative meetings that sometimes can affect our finances and time to undertake a project. Our case is different as time to us is perishable and if we are not able to tap a talent in this town today then that’s a dream shattered for the player and the football world. Cases have arisen whereby we are not able to hold tournaments in all the towns we plan in a particular country this can be because of logistics or cost this is why we look for the most neutral town to do it. Having done that we make it possible for each and every talented child to be able to access the place. Also when giving out balls and kits it is good we note who are the registered local firms that we can liaise with them to ensure that the facilities are properly managed and can help in managing on our behalf. Problem Solving In each and every organization disagreements are bound to happen but the biggest challenge is how to handle them and stick together to achieve the cause and the objective of the organization. ‘Also the issue of problem-solving should be clear to help the stakeholders feel that all options have been exhausted”(92). It is the role of the administrator to ensure there is no pending problem and to always focus on identifying other bottleneck problems. Time management Time is essential for this organization and in nurturing players patience is needed this is because one might be able to ignore yet patience was needed to ensure that the children. It is one of my roles to ensure al competitions are within the stipulated time. It is thus important that we distinguish that time management for funds is also as important as for the employee to arrive. In our company we also have to follow with the FIFA calendar for events as this is the governing body for football and we should adhere as they are also part of the sponsors. FundsRaising Running a nongovernmental organization can be very fulfilling but very challenging as you are always trying to look for donors for the next event. One of my roles in this has always been showing good accountability of what we have and what we aspire to do. “Being frugal has been a positive thing for the company as it shows that we are not necessarily here to spend money but to change lives using the little that we have”(75). Due to this reason we always document and ensure we send to our donors a quarterly expenditure of what we have done and how much we have left and what the plan is for the future. This enables us to build confidence and there is always room for the donors to ask question where they feel they have not understood. Also the governments of the countries we are operating are always updated about our donors so as to ensure there is no misinformation about finances. Recruitment Human capital is the one of the most challenging in the 21st century in management. Getting the best-skilled employees the organization has to ensure a very challenging but transparent recruitment process like for example it is important we analyze who we need. I have prepared an online system where students who are currently in campus can work in our organization during holidays this helps in identifying new staff and how we can sync with the old once they are done. The internship program me is vigorous as it also teaches them about management and team player. ‘It is also in this that helps them build confidence to see what they will achieve at the end of the course’(91). There is also quarterly training for the existing staff as all cannot be taught before they join. I always prepare rotational classes where other staff attends and this helps or rejuvenates the urge to school more. It is also in this that we are able to identify the most performing department and individual in the organization. Competition if used properly can boost morale and rejuvenated low spirits. This can also be credited to the board of directors that also award the best performing team. Retention The best and most important is to ensure the staff is well paid and salary review is done yearly. Employees Assistance Programs This job is challenging as it entails a lot of travelling and this we ensure our staff is received by good hospitality because the safety of our staff is paramount and if not addressed well can be a big issue in our organization. We also offer them grants where they can pursue their education on a part-time basis. This improves our productivity and also is a reflection of our mission not only to improve lives but also to eradicate illiteracy. Staff Supervision Though we have created a very water tight program of how to recruit employees and also how to tap the talents in football it is good for us to always verify what we have. The documents from their age to nationality are important for us as there has been a big challenge for the rest of the football industry. It is this reason that we should always verify because the set guidelines in football are very clear and if not handled properly can damage our reputation. The employees are also divided into smaller groups and every group is assigned so that they can micro manage themselves. “Having smaller groups can help us to understand where the problem is coming from and how to manage it for all of us to achieve our laid down goals’(287). Public Relations Sports require a lot of networking and also media related when organizing competitions so as to have the best pool of talent to tap from. When scouts are ready to select other new players we always need the media in the local town to inform all children interested in sports that we are doing the selection and this needs a lot of campaigns. Marketing through social media has also been helpful to us recently. Billboard advertising is important and us being a community-based organization it is good to liaise and become partners with the people in media to reduce the cost of advertising and promotions. Productive meetings I believe that for an organization to function well it has to understand that meetings are important and also understand that sometimes meetings can be unproductive. It is for this reason that I ensure when calling for a meeting the issue is set and also only the affected people have been included in the meeting. For example calling for a funds meeting then inviting an intern is a waste of time on his/her part. It is good we understand the need to focus on the specific people that the issue affects. Conflict resolution Being engaged in different countries leaves us very prone to many conflicts from our subsidiaries to the government. Having this in mind we have a dedicated six man team to help us in conflict resolution and also avoid court battle. My role is to select the team annually and this you have to select patient and honest employees who should have good negotiating skills. They are the ones to let us know which decision to take in case of fallout with a partner. Through this team we are able to solve cases privately and confidential without other third parties being misinformed. Team Building Work without play will make us dull .Due to this reason we have to identify a specific day during the year where we take a day off work and go together to bond as a team. My role is to prepare a program me where the staff will be able to talk to each other about other things not necessarily related to work and it does not matter the position of the staff. The interns are also in this and they are able to chat with the seniors and they can learn a thing about how to stay focused on their careers. We as the management are also able to get feedback from the staff on issues that they don’t think we handle well and what we can do next. Board of Directors The board of directors is able to learn what we have been doing through annual general meetings that are held. We are able to let them know the challenges we are facing now and what we think we can do to help in finishing this. ‘It is also good to identify other ways of improving our organization and what a better way of doing this than with the experienced people in the industry’ (37). CONCLUSION Having said this Football for you international will always strive to be a better organization. It will work to achieve its mission of giving needy but talented soccer players an opportunity to showcase their talent.
