The prime purpose of the paper is to design project or program that will help to reduce domestic violence on women. Furthermore, key elements are identified from therapy models and implemented on community based program. The material from the articles of William J. Doherty has been used to develop effective community program. Discussion This part of the essay will discuss about several aspects of the project. Program description The Community Advocacy Program or Project is an effective program that should be developed to concentrate on enhancing the talents and strengths of women and provide social support to start new life. This is a community based program that is being developed to make women leave shelter programs for domestic violence. The Community Based Program would deliver independently and backing tailored assistance to emotionally and physically abused women. It is believed that domestic violence and intimate partner abuse can have significant impact on well-being and health of African American women. The office of Justice Programs reveals that fatal intimate part abuse and intimate partner abuse are the main sources for disabling harms and premature death. This is primarily based on women of African American communities. This paper is based on issues that are related to abuse and partner violence against women from African American communities. The project or program discussed on the paper is also concerned about the children of domestic violence victims. Program objectives The objective of Community Advocacy Program is to improve quality of life for participants and eliminate future risk of abuse. This would benefit women to acquire social support and attainment empowerment by using and identifying the community resources provided by Community Advocacy Program. Furthermore, this program would be supervised and trained by professionals. The professional are selected on the basis of experience and knowledge to advocate participated women with much needed social support and community resources. The community resources include child care, financial assistance, legal help and employment. Additionally, this would enable women to leave shelter based project for domestic violence. The domestic violence shelter based program is developed to provide secure and safe accommodation for children and women who are escaping from domestic violence in Africa American community (Stoecker, 2012). This program basically introduced to help women by providing legal assistance and emotional support. Nevertheless, this program has some drawbacks. Women staying in secret place for domestic violence have to travel extended way from their native place. This makes difficulty for women as they are not allowed provide information to anyone about their secure place for accommodation. The development of Community Advocacy Program would help to nullify their disadvantages. The effectiveness of the program is determined by positive effect from woman. The program philosophy The involvement of Community Advocacy Program is based on strength based model. It is assumed that people from domestic violence are capable, knowledgeable and talented enough to help themselves from worse time. The project would concentrate on enhancing the talents and strengths of women. Moreover, this program would encourage community to provide opportunities and resources for accomplishment. This survivor-centered and strengths-based program can be implemented inexpensively and easily. The administered and skilled professionals work as advocates and have to gather information on the necessity of goal and needs of each participants. The philosophy of Community Advocacy Program is to improve the accessibility and availability of support services from community resources and advocates. There would be five phase in the Community Advocacy Program such as evaluation, observing, implementation, minor operation and dissolution. During the phase of evaluation, the purpose of advocates is to know women and family members facing domestic violence. The lack of job and racial discrimination are some of the primary reasons behind domestic violence in African American communities. During these five phases, the advocated are required to collect goals and needs of participants. The observing phase would start with joining woman to the suitable community (Grace, 2014). This is based on analyzing the established needs of the woman. Furthermore, the implementation phase helps to supervise the quality and development of the resources. In the final phase, the job of advocates is to emphasize on the newfound skills and knowledge of woman. This phase would enable woman to continuing retrieving resources. The Community Advocacy Program phases would continue for 10 weeks. The participants have to meet advocates weekly for about 5 hours. The age difference of woman can be another crucial factor that is required to be considered during execution of five phases. Implementation of William J. Doherty articles to develop the program William J. Doherty on article The Families and Democracy Project described the collaborative models, traditional hierarchical models, democracy and family model (Doherty, 2003). The rise of domestic violence can be from parents and violent couple relationships. Therefore it is vital to conduct family therapy and couple counseling. It is an evidence-based and well-established approach that addresses the problems faced by people in context of relationships. From the article The Families and Democracy Project, the collaborative and hierarchical models can be implemented in the Community Advocacy Program. The hierarchical model can involve families and individual and make solid distinction with public and private domains. This is an exclusive strategy that can be implemented to work specifically with families and individual patients. The objective of Community Advocacy Program is to reduce the risk of future domestic violence on women. The hierarchical model can help the program to train advocates and professional to work effectively with participants. Moreover, the collaborative model can also be incorporated within the organization goals of Community Advocacy Program. This model can work with several and individual families in a group education and therapy. The article Family therapists, community and civil renewal by William J. Doherty reviewed the historical background of family therapy concerning wider societal issues and community worries. The author tried to offer level of therapists for involvement with community systems and communities. The Community Advocacy Program can implement new community performs that is determined more by own expertise of families and community defined problems rather than driven by professional expertise and therapist defined difficulties (Doherty, 2000). This new type of community performs can the way of family interaction and lessen community based problems in African American community. The responses of African American women towards the abusive and violent behavior might be determined by social context of their lives and continuing participations of racism. In the year 1996, the survey conducted by national representative states that 12 percentage men from African American community and 29 percentages of women from African American community reported that there is an at least one example of domestic violence from partners. It is believed that intimate partner violence surrounded by African American community is connected with the economic issues. In case of male partner being unemployed, it is understood that domestic violence from intimate partner occurs frequently. This cause of domestic violence can be effectively reduced by focusing more on community and family defined problems. The article families and therapists as Citizens by William J. Doherty introduced new therapeutic paradigm that is believed to move past the present opening between the models and ideals of community exercise (Doherty, 2010). The author tried to discuss on community initiative launched was Putting Family First. This initiative can be implemented in the Community Advocacy Program. It is true that families can maintain balance for future and current citizens. In African American community, it is critical for families to create balance between external activities and internal bonds. The Putting Family First initiative can be introduced to create balanced, strong African American families that are thriving in vivacious democratic community. Relevant specifics from the Practice of Family Therapy Suzanne Midori Hanna tried to encourage practitioners to consider topics like intergenerational relationships, family structure, individual experiences, race and gender. The therapeutic relationships presented by Suzanne Midori Hanna can be applied to the Community Advocacy Program. Moreover, the strength based approach is another perspective demonstrated by Suzanne Midori Hanna. The strength based approach is also combines with other tactics like cognitive behavioral therapies, family systems frameworks and wraparound service models. The application of strength based approach on the Community Advocacy Program would not focus on family and individual functioning but also provide researchers operating successful program. This approach can act as effective tool for key personnel of the Community Advocacy Program (Murphy, 2014). The key personnel of the program licensed professional with proper supervision and training. The therapeutic relationship can be implemented by advocates to promote positive change on women facing domestic violence. Therapists and advocates have to introduce this therapy within their evaluation process to achieve best possible result. This therapy by Suzanne Midori Hanna can encourage people from Community Advocacy Program to be open about inner feelings and thoughts. One of the necessary elements in a therapeutic relationship is empathy. If people facing domestic violence in African American communities experiences empathy, then it is better to place these participants with other individuals to understand and interpret their difficulties. The author Suzanne Midori Hanna emphasized on strength based practice to develop and instill hope to the advocates and therapists to make program successful. The strength based assessment can help therapists and advocates from Community Advocacy Program to assess the characteristics, competencies and skills of women and children facing domestic violence. This practice can provide valid and reliable mode to assess occurrence of changes in individuals. The chapter 9 of the book; The Practice of Family Therapy by Suzanne Midori Hanna expands expertise and coverage on some of the evidence based models. Some of the evidence based models that can include included by Suzanne Midori Hanna are multidimensional family therapy and multisystemic therapy. The multisystemic therapy can be introduced in the program. This therapy is a community and home based intervention for violent and chronic youth. The therapy focuses on protective factors, identifying risk factors and addressing antisocial behavior (Hanna, 2007). This would benefit to lessen further domestic violence. The multidimensional family therapy is a comprehensive and extensive treatment that places life trajectory of family members on improved level and turning behavior of youths. This therapy would enable advocates from Community Advocacy Program to solidify relational and behavioral changes. Furthermore, it is a treatment system that can focus on facilitating the interactional and behavioral alteration. Need assessment This is a systematic process used to set importance for future and determining gaps between desired and current conditions. It is identified that community programs and practices are acknowledged to be noteworthy and innovative. The Community Advocacy Program provides range of services to survivors and victims of domestic violence in Africa American community. The National Crime Victimization Survey states that United States has more than 900,000 annual report cases on national violence. Furthermore, out of those annual cases 85 percentage of victims are women. In African American community, one of the disturbing trends is great level of domestic violence (Hacker, 2014). Many participants believed that the high level of domestic violence flowed straight from the shortfall of leadership. In African American community, the inevitable consequences of the unaddressed and continuing domestic violence are negative generation impact and community weakening. The domestic violence is also identified as domestic abuse, spousal abuse and intimate partner violence. The emotional dependence and low self-esteem are some primary factors that effectively contribute towards changing a person in to intimate partner violence. The Community Advocacy Program can benefit women with domestic violence an alternate means to deal with emotional and physical abuse. This can be effectively done by legal advocacy, counseling, housing assistance, education and non-judgmental emotional care. Moreover, the prime desire for Community Advocacy Program is to find a means and ways to lessen the reappearance, scale and frequency of domestic violence in African American community. Additionally, the need and desire for the program is to increase community awareness and disrupt generational sequence of discrimination and domestic violence. The resource material, training and comprehensive assistance provided from the program can help to nullify domestic violence in the community. The Community Advocacy Program is a native non-profit organization that is created to address safety for women in African American community. Funding opportunities and grants One of the grants that could provide huge benefit to the Community Advocacy Program is Community Action Grants from the American Association of University Women. It is a principal voice for encouraging education and equity for women. The Community Action Grants would provide funds to the Community Advocacy Program. The community grants organization stated that it would provide funds to community based nonprofit organization that promoting welfare and equality for women.
