The Muslim Brotherhood also exhibited various actions which were hardly different from the actions and decisions of Mubarak.  As a result, unrest was soon brewing among the people once again and in the Second Egyptian Revolution, the country was once again brought to a tumultuous standstill.  Morsi was deposed and arrested for his alleged authoritarian rule.  Some members of the Muslim Brotherhood were also arrested.  These events indicate that the Muslim Brotherhood generally failed as far as Egypt is concerned.

  It failed to deliver its promises to the people and it also failed to capture and maintain the Islamist leadership in the country.      The Muslim Brotherhood is considered a religious and political institution, established in 1928 in Ismailia, Egypt by Hasan al-Banna.  It was founded on the teachings of Qur’an and the Hadith.  This brotherhood soon covered different countries in the Middle East and in North Africa.  It was initially started to respond to religious and educational activities, with the brotherhood securing essential social services.

  The 2011 Egyptian revolution pushed the country into a situation it has never been before.  The country was at some point provisionally under the governance of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) and was expected to secure an authentic democratic system soon after.  Parliamentary and Presidential elections were conducted and Egypt was both excited and apprehensive about the upcoming stages in their political governance. Much controversy and criticism were observed during these times, following the end of the Mubarak era.

  The Muslim Brotherhood was one of the targets for such criticism.  In general, the Brotherhood directed Egyptian society towards conservative and inclusive ways of life based on Islamic teachings.  Such teachings were in contrast to Western political and cultural living.  The Brotherhood’s required for the creation of an Islamic state from below, one which would imply the inclusion of Islam in most aspects of people’s lives.  Egypt has adopted some of these views with their leaders claiming to apply Islam as a leadership point of reference.

  As such, the Brotherhood built different mosques, organizations, charities, and social services which have ensured that the group would be able to spread its teachings to other Egyptians in other parts of the country and the world.  Through its teachings, it was able to inspire Islamist movements around the world.  Its actions during the post 2011 Egyptian Revolution however did not reflect its democratic fervour.  This paper shall further discuss how and why the Muslim Brotherhood failed in Egypt, providing analytical details from various authors and analysts on the subject matter.
