Work, Employment, and Society The research on the work, employment, and society was done by the British Sociological Association to explore factors that determined the experiences in the labor market. The British Sociological Association target older women as its labor group pegging the research objective on the fact postulated on historic work that discrimination especially on age embedded with gender, race, and class affected labor market experience of different people (The British Sociological Association, 2009; 558). Notably, the research findings revealed that older women were concerned of the above historical work experience and they noted that the same factors structured their work lives. Moreover, the same seemed to the disadvantageous to them since, for example, mostly age subjected them to sectorial and occupational segregation. In other words, according to the hypothesis of the research, different factors affect the experience workers often face in the labor market (Edgell, 2011; 65); however, age is a factor that affects women mostly. It worth noting that, from the onset of this article, the hypothesis testing or the research hypothesis of the research turned positive. Therefore, this essay wills example tools among other research techniques that the British Sociological Association used to analyze and determine their claims. According to the British Sociological Association, economic capitalism is a factors that contributes immense in the discrimination of women at work place due ages. To determine this, the researchers analyzed the perception of other workers in the changing nature working environment and ho age could affect the same (Mcgrath-Champ, Herod, and Rainnie, 2010). Moreover, they analyzed advantages and disadvantages different occupations and occupational sectors in terms of gender and race. The idea of the article is that age is a factor in the labor market and persons especially women who are considered aged are discriminated upon when it comes to employment in certain sectors and occupations. The research used interview as the main research method to collect data. With their research questions, the researchers concentrated on the direct job related discriminations that were related to age. Other subsequent research questions concentrated on other factors including gender, class, and race. Additionally, the researcher employed the use of literature reviews where they analyzed other people’s work to determine what such external researcher had found to be the relationship between women’s age and labor market experiences (Matanle, 2006). For instance, they analyzed the 1995 Vincent’s story on women’s life. From this story, the British Sociological Association research team realized that there has been long lasting legacy of discrimination of women in their participation in the labor market. From these sets of data collection methods, the British Sociological Association researchers discuss and draw conclusion on the experiences of the older women within the labor market. The British Sociological Association researchers think that age is factored in labor market since it determine social relationships. For instance, they use Hockey and James’ contribution in their 2003 publication where they noted that despite aging affects the physical body, it also affects social experience. In other words, it is usually taken that older people have older social experiences (Thompson, 1985; 72). Therefore, since the contemporary labor market wants new and energetic persons to steer their labor wheel, they find older women out of place. Hence, they contemporary labor market discriminate on the older women. Additionally, a report from Duncan and Loretto’s research work that constituted 1000 employees revealed that men despite their older age as women never experience labor market discrimination as in the case of women. Notably, this research further found out that women are mainly discriminated up based on their age due to their changing appearance and sexuality. The British Sociological Association researchers also addressed key concepts of discrimination including direct discrimination, labor market segregation, class and reconstruction of labor market. From the British Sociological Association researchers’ point of view, the researchers feel that older women sometimes experience direct discrimination in relation to their aging phenomenon. Moreover, according to article the direct discrimination usually heightens with racial considerations (Crompton, 2006; 652). Some of the labor aspects that women feel that they are criminated with the labor market when it comes to looking job and accessing trainings. In addition, it is also noted that such direct discrimination increase with race. According to the British Sociological Association researchers, the native women are sometime shown leniency despite of their age. For instance, the older UK women may leave a labor market and re-enter with a lot of ease compared to women from other races. Nonetheless, women aged over 50 years re-entering labor market is usually a difficult endeavor. It is worth noting that, according to the research by the British Sociological Association, the discrimination against women based on their age is usually experience in numerous employment agencies. Moreover, the government also subject women to the same treatments. Therefore, from the article, it is worth noting that women are actually domed when it comes to aging and hunting for job within the labor market (Williams and Adam-Smith, 2009). The British Sociological Association researchers interviewed both women and men and ascertained their claim. From their interviews, many women said that they felt discriminated since all the jobs that they employed; only the young guys got the jobs. This shows that other than age issue the gender part also played a crucial role. Other than discrimination of women by employment agencies, the research also reveals that women are discriminated upon their job type. From the finding and representation, the British Sociological Association noted that women are usually considered for certain jobs but not others. To ascertain this claim, the involved researcher interviewed women in different fields. Most of the women note that such notions are not only in the labor market but they are even in the social setting (Mcgrath-Champ, Herod, and Rainnie, 2010). For example, they interviewed a woman who told them that her father once told her that there are certain jobs that when she will seek, she will have and remain in the employment. Notably, the woman noted that these words from his father guided her and that is why she is currently in job. Additionally, during this points of the research women were also discriminated in regards to education. They were not allowed to access higher education than their male counterparts. Therefore, at some points in their ages, they were considered unproductive since they could not think and contribute to the labor market as their educated male counterparts. This part of contribution is used by the British Sociological Association researchers to emphasize how gender discrimination in the society also affected the job market. It should be noted that the findings of this research are well structured and factual as well as reliable since it targeted women from all economic sectors and agencies. Therefore, its findings are perfect representation of what is taking place in the society and labor market. Additionally, direct interview that deployed by the researchers depicted the views and emotions that were involved in these views. Finally, it is worth noting that the labor market is also affected by class. Nonetheless, with all factors considered and all vices listed, the British Sociological Association researchers advocated for the restructuring the labor market so that it can treat everyone equally by presenting both gender and ages for fair competitive employment opportunities (The British Sociological Association, 2009; 654). Additionally, according to the British Sociological Association researcher the labor markets should introduce systems that will favor older women and maintain them in the labor market. All those that are thought of as impossibility to them should be restructured to possibility to them. Older age discriminations should be eliminated at all means and everyone’s contribution in the labor market should be appreciated. The researchers analyzed how older women are discriminated in labor market in a ways of providing solution to the same.
