UNEMPLOYMENT by The of the The of the School The and where it is located The Date Are religious fundamentalism and violence always intertwined? Introduction If one takes a close look at the society one can not help noticing that it should be regarded as an irreplaceable prerequisite for the development of the inner potential of a human being. Indeed, if it had not been for the presence of other people, a considerable number of features that are recognized as characteristic to our kind would not have emerged. In addition to that, living in society is inseparably connected to being economically active since having a job provides one with a secure source of income which ensures prosperity. Nevertheless, there is a harsh competition over the available jobs and it happens so that a part of the population is left outside of this competition. This group of people is known as unemployed. This paper will argue that unemployment does not emerge because of lack of employment opportunities and that uneducated people have reasonably good chances of finding a job that is suitable for them. The definition of the unemployed To begin with, it may be particularly important to examined the very term in question. One might suggest that it meaning is quite easily understandable and comprises individuals who do not have a job. However, this approach is quite blunt. The International Labour Organization is the leading body that deals with such issues; so, one should refer to its studies while exploring the phenomenon of unemployment. According to their definition, it is crucial to make several reservations. First of all, one should divide the population into economically active and economically inactive. The latter are not included into the category of the unemployed ("Resolution I", 2015). Furthermore, the mere fact of lack of job does not make a person unemployed: it is possible to have a job and will be classified as an unemployed person. So, the group in question would comprise people who are above 16 and are actively looking for a job or are waiting to start a new one. Unemployment due to lack of employment opportunities Some people argue that unemployment is caused by the lack of employment opportunities. This is not the case for several reasons. First of all, the government has been designing different programs that seek to engage people into economic activity. It is suggested that at a certain point there were so successful that unemployment among youth virtually did not exist (Sukarieh, 2014, p. 60). In other words, it is one of the governmental priorities to provide the sufficient number of employment opportunities. Secondly, the phenomenon of absolute employment is theoretically not possible; that is why there is always room for new employees in the companies that operate in the market. Another point that should be mentioned is that the educational process and the concept of employment are often connected to each other. Of course the rate of people who start a career that is different from their major may be rather high, educational facilities still offer numerous opportunities to the graduates, ensuring that they will be able to put the knowledge that they obtained into practice. In other words, there is a relatively high chance that a person can find a job after graduation with the help of the educational facility. That is why there is a group of students that are provided with employment opportunities by their university which significantly boost the possibility of starting a career. Finally, one should also note that there are numerous trades in the society and they form a complex framework where everyone is able to find a suitable place. In other words, one does not have be an ideal applicant in order to get a job: one simply have to have a basic set of abilities and a desire to find one. This means that there are endless opportunities that are available to a person and one will surely be able to locate one that would suit the best or be available to one at any time. It is possible that low end jobs might be taken by other people who agree to work for less that the majority would work, but it is rather doubtful that all of them will be taken. That is why there is always a number of jobs that a person can find in case one looks for them properly. Unemployment due to lack of education There is another claim that is often made by the people who explore the nature of unemployment: many make a connection between this phenomenon and lack of sufficient education. On the one hand, there is no doubt in the fact that a person who has a degree is able to find a better paid job; however, on the other hand, one does not have to be a professor in order to find a job. Indeed, there are different standards and requirements that are set by the companies and they may vary greatly in terms of qualifications for the seeker (Bridge, 2002, p. 42). In spite of the fact that the society promotes appreciation for higher education, obtaining even the basic level of it may be enough for getting a job in various sectors of economy that are paid reasonably. What is more important is that lack of proper education may not be used as an excuse for unemployment because many organizations offer on the job training for the employees. In other words, educations facilities are not the only bodies that make sure that future workers receive the required skills. Quite often companies are willing to engage loyal people and provide them with the necessary education in return for hard work. This means that academic history of a person does not matter: job can become a certain substitute for academic process. One might also note that while studying it is rather difficult to earn money, but if one receives on the job training, one will be able to improve one’s financial state and secure a stable source of income immediately. Nevertheless, it is obvious that some organizations might support the above mentioned approach, but still have an indirect discrimination that is aimed against people who do not have a sufficient level of education. So, in theory, the latter is not the irreplaceable element of obtaining a job, however, the reality shows that in the majority of the cases it is able to have a decisive influence on the chance. One might suggest that such state of affairs reflects the general attitude towards the significance of education in the society and encourages other people to do their best in the academic field. That is why to a certain extent it would not be an exaggeration to suggest that unemployment might be caused by lack of proper education; nevertheless, this should not be seen as a drawback of the system, but rather a drawback of the people who implement the rules. Conclusion Having examined all the points that were mentioned in the paragraphs above, one should note that the phenomenon of unemployment is a rather complex one; that is why a one dimensional assessment of it is not acceptable. However, there is enough evidence in order to dismiss the claims that it is primarily caused by the lack of employment opportunities or proper education. Thus, the government and the educational facilities have designed numerous programs to satisfy the demand for a job; in addition to that, there are many different trades and standards that are used throughout the economic system. However, in real life education may make a difference, but it is the imperfection of the people, not the system. References Bridge, G. (2002). The Blackwell city reader. Malden, MA: Blackwell Pub.
