Poverty in the USA Introduction Poverty is the state of being deprived and having short of essential needs. America might be a super power nation, but poverty is still one of the prevalent intricacy the country faces. The US census department found out that the country’s poverty level has increased in the current years. Reasons for poverty in America and solutions to this massive challenge are discussed aptly. Causes of Poverty in USA There are several causes of poverty in America such as lack of well salaried jobs, lack of schooling, and effects of worldwide poverty (Garcia, 131). 1. Lack of Gratifying Jobs Many people are jobless and are cut off from employment, a situation that has elevated poverty rates in America (Kotler, 12). When an individual’s source of income is cut off, they tend to lack the indispensable needs of life; hence, resulting to poverty. Joblessness is caused by several reasons, for example, competing with youths over low income jobs. Most unemployed populace are uneducated and can only get low income jobs, yet these jobs are given to youths. These youths mostly live with their economically stable parents and do not need the money. Moreover, they take responsibility of their often unnecessary financial needs such as grooming themselves. Another cause joblessness of the low income earners in America is because of the large amount of illegal immigrants. In order to avoid the authorities, they settle for low income jobs; therefore, they do not want to risk and put their lives in danger. 2. Lack of Education For a person to get a satisfying job, he/she needs to have quality education (Kotler, 12). Most students leave school due to diverse reasons such as early pregnancies or drugs; hence, can not find a rewarding job. Monetary instability causes low quality or no education at all. Many youths desire to advance their education, and acquire rewarding jobs. Unfortunately, their parents and guardians are unable to pay their fees; thus they have to abandon school to secure jobs and help their parents pay debts. Therefore, they create a cycle that never ends, that is from uneducated parent to an uneducated child. American citizens’ faces poverty since they can not grant the manpower needed to ensure a boost in the country’s economy. 3. Effects of Worldwide Poverty Majority of the developing states globally lives in destitute scarcity. The wealthy states such as America are a source of refuge to the growing states. They are perceived as ‘lands of opportunities’. America is one such country, often referred to as the world’s super power nation because of her stable economic. This makes it a niche for itizens of developing countries to scramble for employment possibility from its citizens and illegal immigrants (Kotler, 12). Since the immigrants can settle for any amount of money they are mostly offered jobs, unlike the Americans. The immigrants can work for extra time, and do multiple jobs. For this reason, they further deny employment opportunities to the citizens who meanwhile, are fighting with the youths for menial jobs. Solutions for Eradication of Poverty in USA There are quite a lot of solutions in place to lessen poverty in America. They include government supplements and relieve, poverty awareness campaigns, creating employment opportunities, and providing education (Lin, 1). 1. Government Supplements and Relieve This include credit cards like the Earned Income Tax Card (EITC), which will enable most low class working people to save most of what they earn. The money they save can be used to pay school fees, which they can now meet their expense and raise their living standards. This will diminish poverty levels significantly since the citizens will have the vital needs in life. The government can set up a fund that pays part of tuition charge for underprivileged students, to increase their chances of getting an education and securing chances at colleges. 2. Poverty Awareness Campaigns The government can set up avenues to talk about poverty to citizens and come up with solutions of eradicating poverty. These avenues can be in the form of societal organizations and school forums to get views from the adult and youths on the subject. The people can air out their complaints and what solutions that can work, which the government in turn can use to assist the state as a whole. 3. Creating Employment Opportunities The government can raise employment chances by creating new jobs and recruiting the people. They can accomplish this by creating friendly ties with other first class states, thus inviting them to invest in the state and generate new occupations. The government can solicit donor funds from rich countries and use the money to develop projects, which would spawn money for the stability of the country’s economy. Borrowing funds from other rich countries is another method the government can launch new jobs for its citizens. 4. Providing Education Education is the key weapon in fighting and eliminating poverty in America. There is an alarming rate of school quitters in the USA, which the government should look into and find a way to stop it. The administration should reduce the fees in public schools to enable all students to afford the tuition fees. The learning institutions atmosphere should be friendly and inspiring to persuade learners to attend school and excel in their studies. Conclusion Poverty is a crucial challenge even for an industrial country like America, but the above mentioned solutions can help address this issue and solve it amicably. The budding countries can get rid of poverty by utilising the solutions. Works Cited Garcia, Ginny. Mexican American and Immigrant Poverty in the United States. Dordrecht: Springer, 2011. Print.
