Causes and Effects of Unemployment on a Person's Life - Essay Example

It is a well-known fact that people have to study to a certain level in order to get any kind of job. A minority, however, tend to start businesses without having to study and end up living their lives using the income from their businesses. Working for a salary to pay for the expenses of living have, for an extended time been the norm in society. When one is not employed, then this means that there is going to be a lot of hardship for themselves, and their families. Unemployment is currently affecting an increasing number of people worldwide, and it is only a matter of time before many more people are left without jobs.

There are many factors, which cause this condition as well as many effects, and it is these, which we shall analyze in this paper. One of the main causes of unemployment is when a company, which one works for, goes out of business. In many instances, this comes as a surprise and people are hardly ever prepared for them. When these newly unemployed people attempt to get other jobs, other companies are often exceedingly wary because when one company falls, it tends to destabilize others in the same line of business.

Moreover, there are some instances where people are laid off their work simply because their positions are no longer needed by their companies (Schlafly). This is largely due to the introduction of machinery to do work which was previously done by people. Many people have been left without work because of this, and it is often extremely difficult for them to find new employment in other places. These people only have knowledge concerning their specific line of work, and in order to get new employment, they have to study another line of work, something that is extremely difficult to do.

Furthermore, unemployment is caused when one does not have the necessary education or qualification do a certain job. Some are unemployed because they have disabilities, or health problems, which would prevent them from doing their work efficiently. When people are unemployed, it means that they lose their source of income, which in turn makes them unable to meet their financial obligations. When this happens, they tend to lose their self-esteem and the will to attempt to find another job, which further worsens their situation.

Their being unemployed means that they are not able to pay their mortgages or rent, and this leads to foreclosures or evictions. Unemployed people and their families are thus made homeless and this makes them highly vulnerable to many things. If they do not have close relatives with whom to live, then they end up on the streets, something that further worsens their self-esteem. This means that they have to live on charity, and not only will they not have sufficient food; they will also be at risk of becoming ill due to exposure (Zamfir 125).

Unemployment can therefore, be said to be a particularly risky thing to fall into, especially in the modern world. Unemployed People tend to lose everything they have worked extremely hard for, and it is often extraordinarily difficult for them to get back to their previous standards of living. In conclusion, it can be said that unemployment is an increasing problem, which has to be tackled quickly to prevent it from spreading further. It is necessary for all governments to consider finding solutions to this issue so that people can retain a reasonable living standard.
