Sociology Discussion 10: Minority Women Q How Malveaux views basketball as a sport which reinforces gender stereotypes Malveauxviews the sport as a game where men are the center of the attention while women watch from the sidelines. She also views this sport as one where men make millions by when playing internationally while women are just spectators who watch from the periphery waiting to prey on the rich men. She states some of the women watch the game while crafting ways of getting a share of the millions the men players get through sexuality (Andersen & Hill-Collins, 2013).Q. 2.

How gender expectations influence Latino youth to consider the military as a career optionYoung people play a very critical role in Latino communities. This is because they are responsible for a range of different tasks in their communities. For example, young women assist older women at home for both cultural and materialist reasons (Andersen & Hill-Collins, 2013). This makes some of the young women to prefer enrolling in the military as it gives them income and also allows them freedom of choice.Q. 3.

Excuses government and human rights agencies give for not considering womens issues as human rights issues?Few governments have shown concrete efforts to ensure women’s equality in their domestic spheres or in foreign policy. Non-governmental organizations have not done any better either (Andersen & Hill-Collins, 2013). Governments and non-governmental organizations have offered various excuses as to why they do not out rightly champion women’s rights. One major excuse is that there are many more survival issues that require more attention than women issues.

Cultural practices are also blamed for women oppression where these institutions say that this is not a policy issue. ReferenceAndersen, M. L., & Hill-Collins, P. (2013). Race, class and gender: An Anthology (8th ed.). Boston, MA: Cengage Learning.
