Racial Incidents in The Butler Movie - Essay Example

In the recent past racial abuse has been rampant throughout the world and these two movies have depicted what happens in real-life situations. In connection with this, the main of this paper is to analyze incidences of racial abuse in The Crash and The Butler movie.

As the crash movie begins there is a Persian family who were purchasing a gun, however the way the owner of the shop made several statements that suggest that he was a racist. For example, there was the issue of the plane and the twin towers. He made this statement even though his customers were not Arabs, they were Persians (Cameron, 2006). Therefore, according to him, anyone who comes from Asia is a terrorist. Another incident is when Sandra Bullock talked about the relationship between black and white people. She said that when ladies are approached by black men and they turn the other way then they are racist. However, she justifies the sentence by saying that soon after the lady turns away the men put a gun on her head. The statement made by Sandra portrays racism because not all black men are criminals (Cameron, 2006).

While in the butler racism has also been depicted for example, when Gaines’s parents warn him that he should try and stay away from evil people, and then Mr Westfall comes and takes his mother into a nearby bush and rapes her, showing racism (Lee, 2013). This is because Mr. Westfall is white while Gaines’s family is black.  Also, the way the servants were being treated at the state house shows racism in the movie (Lee, 2013).
