Effects of Riots on Families Some people feign when they hear the word riot because they feel its impact whenever they think about it. Witnessing an ugly scene where the police butter civilians is frightening. Safety would be the next thing that a person would think of when worst situation escalate. A person may daze away in fear, looking for safety, running through the streets and finally settles in quiet place. Accepting the ugly incident is one of testing experiences that a person would ever face. It is possible that a person would challenge the mental pictures about the ugly incidents and life would go on. While many people feel that riots create physical damage to the society, some people confess to suffer psychologically many years after the incident. Sometimes street riots lead to physical injury or death (Ulin 756). Innocently walking pedestrian plunged into a rioting mob. This person has no idea what caused the riot, what the rioters demand or when will the rioting end. The pedestrian has to accept his situation by joining the mob or face lynch from them. On the other end, anti riot police would be chasing the rioting mob in the streets. It is unfortunate that the pedestrian found in the rioting mix would register a bullet wound from police who are resisting their move. The situation suddenly condemns the family of the pedestrian to doom. The breadwinner can no longer support the family because of his inability to perform tasks, which generated income to the family. The situation of that family moves from a bad condition to a worst condition because the pedestrian could not survive to help the family out of its difficulties. It is hard to believe sudden twist of events in ones life. A family might not believe the sudden lose of person they loved. Thinking about the last moment shared rekindles sweet memories in life and then bitter regrets about the events that led to death (Hillsbery 56). Family members of the pedestrians have to accept the ugly truth that they have lost the person they loved. Thinking too much about certain condition may lead to mental problems. Some people show attribute of withdrawal from societal activities because they feel that life cannot be that cruel. Several factors may instigate behavior change in a family. Different people respond differently to situations they face. A condition that led to death of a family member might influence other members positively or negatively. For instance, failure to accept death may make a family member to show repulsive characteristics to occurrences in the society. Street families face difficult situation during riots. A riot displaces street families from their normal activities (Smith 212). When a street riot occur no one know where to run to, or what items to save or leave. The state of confusion would culminate in lose of property or injury. Life is precious to every human being; however, some conditions make life meaningless. Losing a property that a person has struggled to acquire for many years is an experience that a person may not forget. Many people have confessed that they have failed to face such situations, which occur after a riot. They are unable to believe that their world had crumpled after a short duration. How does a person start building a business firm that he built for ten or fifteen years? The thought of starting from grass is difficult to comprehend and it might remain to haunt an individual for the better part of his life. Sometimes police quelling riots succeed in arresting rioting individuals. The sentences preferred against that individual would influence the family of this individual because the family will have to accept that the individual is no longer a good person but a criminal. Families break because partners in those families have failed to yield to a common interest. It is difficult to admit that a trusted partner is among hooligans in the streets. Some people find it hard to accept rejection associated with humiliating effects of riots and end up committing suicide. A person may argue that the choice helps to truncate a long story that leads to torture and rejection. I feel that the action does not solve the problem, but it aggravate the condition. I believe that the bond that holds a family is love. A family member who is a riot victim may not find the time to enjoy the family bond. In event of physical injury, support from family members would be paramount, yet it might not be the case. Some members of the family may argue that participation in street riot is a personal choice, thus withdrawing their support in time of need (Ulin 756). The situation would pelt a worse condition with a stone. The injured member would lose love for his family and start thinking of how to lead a life without the people he cherished. Social rejection culminates into psychological effect. A person will have to think and make decision about the future. Psychologically, too much thinking leads to psychosis, a condition that draw a person from reality to a world of fiction. I believe riot would influence behavior of an individual in the society. when a riot occur in the street, some people run a way because they fear to witness people fighting while other run because they fear to see police shoot in the air. The condition that creates fear for riot would influence behavior in the society. People who witness riots confess that they would run whenever they hear sound of a gun. This might influence family ties because a person would dictate what movies the family should watch or when the family should go for outings. Such restrictions would spoil family gains, exposing the family to quarrel whenever a member of the family stray away from these conditions. Street riots, which advances on racial grounds, have devastating effects to families of mixed races. Imagine a situation where a person from one race marries from another race. In an event of street riot, the individual might not know which camp to support. For instance street riots involving black protest against the whites projects a sad picture to a family, which has two factions. A member of the family would be dangling between two junctions. I believe the scenario will affect the children of that family because they will believe that one partner in the family is inferior or stands for a particular notion. Positive reactions to events, which occur in the society usually, build the ties in the family. However, some people may demonstrate some negative effects of situations they witness in riots. A demonstration of a negative effect of a riot would spoil relationship gain in the family (Hillsbery 58). Sometimes a person might not see the need to uphold some traits if conditions that he is witnessing does not respond to his perception. Environmental factors influence social ability of a person. Effects from external environment would influence an individual to make decisions, which are negative to the morals of the family. For instance, a child may not be able to identify the negative effects of riots until he or she experiments the action he or she saw when people were rioting. The attitude developed by the child would influence the family morals because many people believe that morals of a child depend on the teaching of the parents. Friends of the child’s family may not realize the effects of physical environment to the child. Conflicts that crops from similar incidences usually occur in families whose members were victim of riot. Psychologically, people tend to practice what they see in the society. The effect of what these people do might not be evident to them immediately, but might influence their future life. Many people who engage in activities that are against societal norms usually practice what they learnt during early childhood. When an individual demonstrate that a wrong thing is what suite some condition in the society, it is apparent that person is suffering from psychological problem. I believe that most family problems that people witness in the society today come from ideas that the society has built about rioting. People demonstrating aggressive or violent reaction against certain issues that affecting their families usually mimic what the have witnessed in riots (Ulin 758). For instance, a young child speaking to his exhausted father in a soft tone is likely to face a harsh reply from the father because of previous events that characterized the father’s day. Many people who act under stress usually retort to issues that influence their lives. The child did not have anything wrong against his father however; the psychological effects of the father influenced the reaction in the event. I believe that many families succumb to similar situations because of derived effects of riots. I believe that problems that interfere with human brain have detrimental effects to the family than issues affecting physical body. A person may fail to decide between good action and bad because his mind is unable to judge between the two situations. Putting up with somebody who does not respond positively to the society is one of the challenges that a family would face. It is arguable that a physical damage would heal after some time while a mental disorder would influence a person’s action to the grave. The society might not be able to influence factors that contribute to rioting, but an individual with a sound mind is able to discern what is right (Hillsbery 123). In conclusion, riots pose both physical damage and psychological damage to a family. Handling physical challenges associated with riots are quite easy. Conversely, psychological issues that eminent from effects or riots create large social gaps in family with respect to individual behavior. Some situations may grow worse necessitating separation or rejection. Family love is the fabric behind family relationship.
