The name our Voices illustrates that the book is a collective voice of the authors and some of their close friends who had the same vies as they had for the improvement and transformation of the Australian social work (Simmel 2009). The chapter tries to explain the events that transpired in Australia during the pre colonial and during the colonial periods. It illustrates the effects of child neglects by being unable to access the basic commodities and health, child molestation in the aboriginal communities of Australia.

The child abuses includes structural violence and institutional abuse by some perpetrators who are never taken to court to face justice for the victims (Nettleton & Harding 2004). The chapter explains the challenges facing the families that are in aboriginal areas and their limited chances for the protection against the abuses, neglects and poor health from the protection agencies. It views that several families in the areas suffer serious trauma considered as generational, grief caused by their endless problems and losses.

The chapter also discusses vividly the different types of Trauma faced by women and children that may lead to the death of their babies (Plummer & Macionis 2000). From the chapter reading I have learnt the dangers of taking alcohol and other drugs most especially to the pregnant mothers as it may lead to the early death of the child, giving birth to unhealthy child. It also illustrates the importance of child protection from the unfair treatments such inability to access good health, getting basic needs like shelter, clothing and adequate food (Simmel 2009).

From the chapter, I clearly learn the mistreatments that the Aboriginal people underwent during the pre-colonial and colonial periods, how they were murdered, and raped, tortured and forced evictions from their home country. (Halloran 2004). This subjected them to societal grief, losses and cultural trauma. During the colonial period, the Whites abolished the
