Play is crucial for mental and physical development, and it helps the young children to understand their world as soon as possible. Although social roles helps to explain the above differences, medical professionals often direct that people should engage in play as a means of building good health. Play is instrumental in cognitive development. Each time that a child engages in a play, he or she will be exposed to a different thing. In an attempt to practice the new things that he or she experiences during the play, the child would be growing mentally.
In addition, Anderson-McNamee argues that this aspect is critical in defining stress levels in the human body (1). Whenever the human mind accumulates stress, the balance of blood in the brain seems to change, hence headache among other health disorders. However, when an individual responds to the situation by playing, concentration of stress in the brain would reduce. Various authors have demonstrated the above argument by conducting studies that borders on stressors and stress levels in the body (Sigelman and Rider 123; Pellegrini 76).
Arguably, play comes as the activity that would help an individual to break the monotony of the building stress levels. Play destructs the stress concentration in the brain an attribute that makes it part of human activities. Some critics advise that people should seek opportunities that withdraw their concentrations from stressing moments (Anderson-McNamee 3; Schechner 5). Largely, withdrawal from such situations helps in changing individual’s mindset, an aspect that tends to change whenever an individual engages in a play.
Probably, the above explanation accounts for such arguments. Play is important in shaping the way a child would think. Studies attribute play to healthy brain development. When children play, they tend to get the opportunity to interact with their environment, learn through the activities involved in the play as exploring and conquering fear. It is hard for the child to conquer fear if the child has no opportunity to experiment with what is happening in the immediate environment. Children use play as their own methods to explore the unknown world through play, which means play is the first and most eventful experience for children to grow and to live in this world.
Children not only establish their initial outlook on life and values by playing, but they also will effectively absorb and adapt to the changing environment, which will provide a basis for their lives. It is not surprising to see children mastering the parental roles by engaging in a play where parental role is the central theme. Many children develop their competencies from the playground. Critics are able to identify the future interest a child by studying the activities of the child. When children play, they tend to concentrate on specific areas of interest.
For instance, psychiatrist often study the attitude of an individual based on information about ones attitude (Siegelman and Rider 124). In addition, the knowledge of the child play is instrumental in designing the talent development plan. For instance, the famous Michael Jordan started building his talents in basketball at early stages in life. Thus, creating a room for a child to play is instrumental in shaping the child’s future life. Play is instrumental in building the family or friendship bonds.
