The Population of Pilsen - Research Paper Example

As of the US census record of 2010, the demographics of Pilsen stood at Hispanics is 82%, the white being 12%, blacks following at 3%, the rests were Asians and other racial groups. These figures have only slightly being altered even though the number of whites may have increased by much compared to other races due to the influx in artists to that neighborhood in the new condos and another upcoming real estate (Pero, 2011). The residents of Pilsen are famous for their Mexican cuisine. Their Mexican delicacies bring people all the way from other counties just to experience it.

Some of these famous cuisines include: the tripe soup, tortillas, margaritas, tequila, mojitos and even tamales among other delicacies available everywhere in the neighborhood including then streets where vendors openly prepare and cook their food and the smells wafting in the air is what most people in uptown miss and what brings them to the lower west side. Currently, the neighborhood of Pilsen has mixed racial residents and also mixed class residents. However, the affluence of the Hispanics and Latinos who were among the last immigrants to occupy the area is still highly felt and observed.

This neighborhood can be categorized as the holding the largest Mexican-American residents and culture in Chicago city. What is vividly evident of the people who here are the outdoor murals. Even though the boom in real estate in this neighborhood has made some changes by increasing the condo units in the area, the Mexican culture portraying Latino heritage is still highly seen and this indicates the still high presence of its current residents.
