SOCIOLOGY AND THE INTERNET United s expects to undergo radical transformations in the next 10 years in all aspects. Demographically, the U.S population is expected to rise to about 350 million if the current growth rate remains constant. Immigration is believed to be a key contributor to the rise in population. Economists in the United States fear that the level of unemployment is likely to rise over the next 10 years due to technological changes aimed at increasing efficiency in production while on the other hand rendering many people jobless.
This phenomenon can also be explained by the decline in the key industries such as steel and auto industries which have been major employers. The energy sector is expected to shift from the use of fossil fuel to green sources of energy such as the solar energy in the bid to control global warming. The introduction of fuel saving vehicles will help minimize the emission of carbon into the atmosphere.The internet plays a key role in the changes to be expected in 10 years through sharing of information across the globe. The U.S is able to monitor the progress of other economies that are vital to its progress pose a great threat to the achievement of the American dream.
Social interaction sites such as Facebook, twitter and Myspace promote provides links for sharing information thus enabling people to adjust quickly to the changing world. Sociologists use the internet to study how people react to the changing world through the use of the social media platform. This enables them to establish if certain expectations of the people are going to be met as well as identifying specific age groups to be most affected by the changes. Through the internet, sociologists are able to determine fashion trends thus providing the right advice to the manufactures of various commodities.
