Sociological Imagination Introduction This paper will focus on how Mills define sociological imagination, as well as my understanding of the term. The paper also focuses on whether everyone has the capacity to develop sociological imagination. Moreover, the paper will dwell on my culture in a sociological way and the impact of my ethnic background on my sociological imagination. The paper also seeks to discuss the difference between troubles and issues, and also apply sociological imagination to current social issues such as same-sex marriage and affirmative action.

Lastly, the paper will evaluate the best sociological theory, which can be applicable in analyzing the social concern that I will select.Sociological imagination is a key term, which determines the meaning that people get from an issue when they think sociologically about the issue.BodyMills defines sociological imagination as the insights that a person gains regarding the relationship that exists between the society and experience that a person encounters. In my own understanding, sociological imagination entails employing imagination and thinking to sociological questions, which may be troubling an individual, entity, or the entire society.

In my opinion, every human being has the capacity and ability to develop sociological imagination. This is because the interpretation of reality tends to differ from one human being to another (Ritzer 4).Sociologically, my culture can be defined based on a number of sociological aspects, which can be said to accompany the culture. My culture comprises of beliefs, morals, values, as well as traditions, and rituals. In my culture, there tends to be norms of acceptable behaviour, which determine how members of my ethnic group and the entire society behave.

My ethnic background has affected my sociological imagination in a number of ways. For instance, my sociological imagination has influenced my view of other cultures, as well as how I view people from other ethnic backgrounds. My interpretation of beliefs from other culture has also been based on my sociological imagination. My traditions have also been influential in determining how I interpret my own culture.Troubles can be regarded as problems that exist within human beings and they tend to influence the thought patterns within the human body.

On the other hand, issues refer to problems that occur outside an individual. One of current social concerns that can be evaluated on the basis of sociological imagination encompasses affirmative action. With regard to my own sociological imagination, affirmative action should be employed in order to ensure that all genders have equal opportunities of gaining enrolment in various issues. However, there may be issues when it comes to affirmative action since some people may argue that there is abuse of such a privilege.

For example, people may argue that the female gender is accorded a lot of privileges at the expense of the male gender. This may be the case in school admissions where girls are admitted with extremely low marks with an excuse of affirmative action. The sociological theory that can be termed as most applicable for analyzing the social concern selected is the feminist theory. Based on this theory, feminists would argue that it is necessary for girls to be accorded equal opportunities with men and this can best be done through affirmative action.

Feminism would also support the participation of women in economic development, which can be done through empowering women to gain academic qualifications. Feminists would argue that women have the capacity to develop and be at the same level with men. Works CitedRitzer, G. (2013). Introduction to sociology. Los Angeles: SAGE.
