The Responsibilities of an Educated Person in a Democratic Society As a of an Ivy league college or I believe that my eyes will be opened to the fact that I have the opportunity to achieve the highest possible intellectual training from the finest minds in the world. I will also have been given a great task ahead of me upon graduation. That great task is that of improving the world that I live in based upon the principles and experiences that will receive as a university student. I believe that my life experiences over the next 4 years will replace my carefree demeanor as a person with a sense of responsibility that one develops upon achieving a sense of moral and social maturity.

These are lessons that can only be gleaned from the reshaping of an individual during his college years. I will then re-enter our society with the knowledge that I am now responsible for other things than just myself. I shall then be responsible for my fellowman by ensuring that he is treated justly and fairly by a society that tends to place social demarcation lines between people based upon financial capability and social classes. I should already be capable of making life better for others based upon my intellectual skill and technical know-how that can be used to foster and develop industries and jobs for those around me.

Being a part of society will no longer mean participating in an endless stream of college parties that go on all night and all weekend. Instead, society for me will then become a place where culture and values are shared across the board, regardless of sex and race. This means that I will be able to help shape our society into a place where everyone must be treated justly and fairly simply because we are all human beings who share the same space in this world.
