Unit Introduction For one to become a legal immigrant of United s, one is required to undergo various screening programs, fill in immigration forms, expensive fees, immigration services and Benefits Programs, and fingerprints among others. There are a variety of fees that are also required, and it is evident that the U.S immigration law does not favor uneducated or the poor. United States government policy should not favor certain kind of immigrant based on talent, necessity, oppression, wealth and nationality.
This would be obvious discrimination. Tate, (2008), claims that without considering terrorist’s attacks expansive border and accepting anyone with open arms would be supreme but not practical. Therefore, having this in mind, it is important to offer legal citizenship and immigration on discriminatory basis. However, the question remains where a country should draw a line on who should be accepted or not. Clearly, the U.S government should have a certain type of preference in immigration application.
This helps in keeping the U.S population under control as well as reduces the number of terrorists’ threats in the country. Incase the government decides to limit immigrants in United States, then discrimination based on oppression or necessity can be acceptable (Tate, 2008).However, Tate (2008), contends that giving priority the rich, talented and certain countries an opportunity to become legal immigrants in United States will only portray that only few unique individuals are accepted in the country, and therefore, other people do not matter or contribute nothing to the country.
This kind of practice is also unacceptable in the society and the U.S government is doing its best to prevent overpopulation in the society, which would affect the quality of life for each one in the society.
