Performance in Front of the Boss - Essay Example

Performance has to be formal when the performer’s relationship with the audience can have a serious impact on the performer’s life. This mostly happens when the audience has control over the performer. A student obeys the teacher because the teacher assumes the tendency to ruin the student’s grade. An employee obeys a boss because the boss assumes the tendency to terminate the employee. This is not the case with friends and parents. Parents can not ruin their children in any way, so the children remain relatively careless while performing in front of them, though their love for the parents still makes the children display a high-quality performance. There is no question of formality in the case of performing in front of friends because formality and friends are antonyms.

Formal presentations require practice before they are made while informal performances can be made on the spot without prior rehearsal. Presentations in front of boss and teachers are made in power-point and are reflected on the multimedia projector whereas the performer tends to rely on his/her oratory skills to illustrate something to parents and friends.
