The combined economy of EU is the largest in the world with a nominal GDP of €11.6 trillion in 2007 (IMF report, 2007). As a student of International business, I have a deep interest in gaining real knowledge about the mechanics governing such a colossal entity of which, European identity is an integral aspect. The various institutions of Europe have been defined as supranational as well as intergovernmental in their overall impact on the everyday lives of Europeans, as well as global citizens.

This dissertation couldn’t have had a more apt topic for research value. Apart from an enriching exposure to diverse knowledge streams surrounding European common interests (during my present academic career as an MA student of European business), it was my personal mission to investigate the unique factors governing identity issues of Europe and derive conclusions on how they should be applied in other regional settings such as ASEAN, Asia-Pacific Regional Forum etc.

For an outsider, the European behemoth runs around a clockwork precision in its fulfilment of common goals which is a remarkable sign of advancement in its overall scheme of things. I would like to apply these intangible learning skills into my future career interests as a visionary, a future entrepreneur and a strategic advisor on European affairs. Being a neutral observer, I have a subjective curiosity on the interrelationships between European cultures, people and languages.
