Giddens states that modernity can be equivalent to a world that is industrialized and not only on institutional dimension but the social relation which is implied in the use of material power and machinery during production processes. This is an institutional axis of modernity and its second element is capitalism which is a structure used in producing commodities which involves competitive markets and commodifying labor power. These can be distinguished from institutions of surveillance and the basis for increased organization power is associated to the emergence of modern social life. Democracy in intimacy will also involve protection from arbitrary use of political authority and coercive; therefore, in other circumstances, there should be the negotiation of decisions especially by all individuals affected by the decision even if the decision is taken on behalf of the majority by the minority. Democracy will involve all the individuals during the determination of an individual’s condition of association hence individuals are presumed to accept authentic and reasoned character of others individual’s judgments. Lastly, democracy will involve the expansion of economic opportunity in order to be able to develop the available resources, this includes the assumptions that when individuals are relieved the burdens of physical needs, they are able to achieve their aims in a better way (Giddens, 1992, p. 185). When converting the household of a traditional form of family, it is the household’s identity life that works hard toward converting the household into a modern form of family. The nuclear nature of the family is not responsible for the reciprocal commitment by modern spouses, if a family is nuclear but seen as a domestic enterprise that is ruled by the head of the family, modern conjugal mediation will lack in the family. What each spouse contributes in the family will act as a catalysts and each inter-subjective mediation of conjugal relationship makes the spouses find a world that is personalized and resembles the relationship they experience.
