LATHE FAMILY ASSIGNMENT al Affiliation) Theory or framework The theories that have been identified in the article are Freudian and Erickson. The main ideas that have been much utilized in the argument are those from Erickson theory. Erickson theory explains human behavior, the social environment and how change can be facilitated by the social worker in order to benefit clients (Schriver, 2015). Orienting theories are part of conceptual framework that provides knowledge about how groups, families, individuals and development of societies over time. It builds on and synthesizes the social and behavioral science.
Through Erickson theory there has been explanation and description about human behavior, social forces and human development that shape the human development, social forces that shape the human experience and political and economic systems which impacts individual, communities and families (Burgess & MacDonald, 2005). The theories that are used in the case study show the relationship that occurs between the facts on the topic and the theoretical part of the case study. The systems perspective understands human behavior as the consequence of mutual interactions of persons operating within linked social systems
The criteria used in choosing the theory and framework
The criteria that was used in choosing the theory was based on the behavior that were portrayed in development of David through the social life and the environment that he lived. The practice perspective incorporates the strengths, ecological, generalist and diversity perspective (Schriver, 2015).
Using a generalist perspective was effective in this as aspect as it is that which enables reflection of the situation that may need to be addressed at multiple levels, integrating a variety of theories and models. Ecological perspective of the criteria prompts consideration of the social environment on the client and the interaction between client and environment. Diversity criteria ensures that one considers ways in which diversification is made to all kinds impacts experience of a client. The criteria are those chosen depending on the context of how the language is used that influences the application of the concept as a theory or as a model (Burgess & MacDonald, 2005). The criteria that was used in choosing the theory and framework was that which was to ensure that all the aspects of the case study are covered in the theory and bring out the difference between the theoretical aspects and the facts on the social topics (Schriver, 2015).
The limitation of using the theory in analyzing David’s case
Theoretical perspective that has been used in the analysis does not cover some instances that are present in the case. Theoretical aspect of the case also brings only the instances of problems that are existing in the case but do not give the proof for the problems and the practices that can be put forward to deal with the instances. The language that is used in the theory does not influence the application of the concept as a theory or as a model (Kadushin & Harkness, 2002). The theory that is used in the case is also considered a model which is conversely ecological which is similarly identified as both a theory and a perspective. Theoretical perspective does not also properly analyze David and his social environment.
Information attained from the theories and applications of the frameworks
Erickson theory has been useful in the case study. The information that has been attained from the theory is on behavioral perspectives. Other theory critics, on the other hand, argue that the eight views discussed in the case study have undergone repeated change, but not such radical change as to be branded a paradigm change. These critics suggest that the perspectives have stood the test of time because they have, over time, become much more self-conscious about diversity and inequality. Whether or not the care to variety and inequality establishes a model shift, the learning attained has enabled agreement that it has been a major and positive trend in behavioral science theorizing (Kadushin & Harkness, 2002). There has also been learning on major trends in behavioral science. Another major trend in behavioral science theory is that though much of new theorizing fits within current categories of theoretical views, theoretical synthesizing is distorting the boundaries between perspectives. Theorists are being influenced by each other, as well as by societal changes, and have begun to borrow ideas from each other and to build new theory by combining aspects of existing theory. As one reads about each of the perspectives, the person is able to start thinking about not only how it can be applied in social work practice, but also how well it represents all the complexities of human behavior in its current form.
Examples of the theories that can be used in this aspect are system perspective that sees human behavior as the outcome of reciprocal interaction of people that operate within a linked social system. Four of the perspectives introduced in this case study are based in sociology, four are based on psychology, and several have additional interdisciplinary roots. This diversity reflects the history of the social work profession: Social work scholars began with a preference for sociological knowledge, moved over time to a preference for psychological knowledge, and has recently come to seek knowledge of both environmental and personal factors (Pierson & Thomas, 2010). This recent trend is consistent with the multidimensional approach of the case study.
In the case study noted the influence of larger systems on this family, particularly the insecurities in the labor market and the gaps in the health care system. Medicare coverage for hospice care is an important resource for the family as they cope with the end of life care needs of Ruth (Pierson & Thomas, 2010). The theory in this case study leads to thinking about the mutual roles of one that gives the care and care receiver and how the family members keep altering their caregiving roles to be able to incorporate changing care needs. Another note is that this family, like other families, has a boundary indicating who is in and who is out, and one may be wondering if the boundary around this family allows sufficient input from friends, neighbors, religious, extended family, organizations, and other factors.
Contribution of power point of trauma to the analysis of the case of David
The power point on trauma illustrates the impact of psychological trauma on development of learning. The power point brings about facts on trauma; definition of the event, complex trauma, stress and other facts about trauma. This power point is important in the analysis as it allows for comparison between the facts and the theoretical case of David. Comparison of the facts and theoretical aspects allows for comparison of the approaches that are used in theoretical aspect and the level of difference in the criteria. The power point on trauma also tends to show the perspective that is taken by the theory of the case study. The power point is also important in making sure there is more understanding on the topic. In the case of David the PowerPoint was on trauma was useful since it also enables more understanding on the effects that are caused by abusing drugs such as in Rachael when She has broken into homes and abandoned buildings, spray‐painted buildings, and stolen from local stores, but has never been arrested.
