EVALUATING A PERSUASIVE COMMUNICATION Rationale for Communication Persuasive communication entails passing and receiving information in order to influence people attitudes, behavior, and beliefs. Communication is not a personality trait as it involves various skills that are learned. What people have experienced before reinforces bad habits; an imperfect teacher (Mark, Donaldson, & Campbell, 2011).Empirical studies show that the incidences of domestic violence among men and women has increased significantly. Therefore, the law enforcement agencies such as the police officer and judges should approach the issue with a lot of care. They should consider both sides to enforce justice accordingly. They should not only consider women being abused but also they should consider men for the same. The police need to be knowledge on how men are being tortured (Mathews, & Abrahams, 2001). The police need to learn these skills effectively to avoid being biased by gender in handling domestic violence that is not gender problem but a human problem. For better understanding, videos and other methods of observation can be used to convince the police that men need to be. Polices attitude needs to be based on thorough investigation of claims received on domestic violence. Several relevant arguments within the police hands need to be (Hogg, and Vaughan, 2010). The law enforcement agencies should be impartial; they should consider that bot women and men can be victims of domestic violence. The society is in supportive of women yet men are suffering. The difference will not be teaching unless the police choose to retain the teachings. The instructions need to be taught specifically for its effectiveness not to be diminished as they progress in their duties. Observations through videos and music will make the police get a clear picture of what male victims are going through. The detailed well-intentioned descriptive feedback can also help the police. The police can also rehearse to obtain change by incorporating the situation of men under domestic violence into their personality having got the exact information of the situation (Hogg, and Vaughan, 2010). Theories, models and perspectives that have been developed to examine prejudice and discrimination Importance of video communication in persuading the police First, it is important that police are that there exist domestic abuses for men as women fought for their rights and achieved it entirely by 1975 (Thomas, & Beasley, 1994). For the change in police behavior, they do not need just to know but they need to know how. Poor teaching will be if experience alone is taught. The observations in power point, video and music will make the police get further knowledge like for example feedback of what women have reported and rehearse in such situations. An excellent opportunity will also be for a police woman or policeman to look at herself or himself as a male DV victim. The absence of observation will allow the police to get second-hand information. Consequently, the reported communication may be far from reality. Exposure of women weaknesses and formative assessment of men’s condition will be understood directly by the police through observation. The police will understand the situation better (Petty, Brin˜ol, Tormala, and Wegener, 2007). Second, the police have realized through the persuasive communication, that men were suffering might be their brothers, fathers, uncles, colleagues and close friends among other relations. They will then have a better-developed framework as this is something affecting the self as it is not irrelevant. Research and the video provide law enforcement agencies, and the society should coordinate to curb the vice of domestic violence. The consequences of the abuse should be taken into consideration by the abused man before being found in minor issues like pushing a woman and bruise is developed is a wake-up call to police to do thorough investigations. They now know that there is pre-existing information that they need to do know and investigate to save the men who are abused socially, psychologically, emotionally, financially, sexually and also physically. They will use the past that has a large structure of hidden content to evaluate the new message. Previous knowledge is necessary for the police for both high and low-end involvement groups (Miller, 2004). Thirdly, the video is imperative because it create some sense of awareness to every person who watches it including the law enforcement agencies such as the police. It indicates that domestic violence can affect every partner in a relationship irrespective of the gender. Police’s abilities and motives might be different under low and high involvement; however, this might change by observing the video and music. It depends on how they understand how men torture women. However, videos have provided conflicted pattern of results that characterize more on attitude research that are beyond police doubt. There exist two ways to deal with persuasion, and the two ways have different traits of consequents and antecedents. It is that the future police work on domestic abuse should involve uncovering what is hidden rather than following persuasion route that involves personality. It is clear that the variable of men being tortured by women as seen by the police through the videos will motivate the police to engage in a laborious task in evaluating the arguments given to them. Indeed, there is a high likelihood that central route to persuasion has increased in the part of the police force. They are that men are suffering much yet they are human beings like women (Augoustinos, Walker, and Donaghue, 2006). Importance of persuading the police Since the police are in holding the right opinions concerning gender biases, there is a likelihood that people will also be motivated to scrutinize arguments presented regarding gender biases in domestic violence. Helping the police understand this situation is the best way of passing the content to the public. In addition, the police analyzing on number of issues in a personal consequence and realizing a likelihood of veridicality will make the police be motivated. They will scrutinize complaints of many individual results as compared to those with less personal effect. Research shows that the low personal importance of men’s domestic issues makes the police less motivated to help men (Jones, Sinclair, and Courneya, 2003). Perception of police to video communication The video may help to change the attitude and the way police officer views the issue of domestic violence. They can now understand that domestic violence affects not only women but also men in the society. In addition, it can help them to identify the most appropriate strategies when dealing with the incidence of domestic violence. They should carry out an adequate investigation to determine the parties affected and look for measures to address the problem as stipulated in the law (Bohner, and Wanke, 2002). Recommendations Due to current men’s abuse, the police need to help men entirely. First, for a long lasting attitude change from the police, in how they view domestic violence, systematic approach via Heuristic-Systematic Model is necessary (Priester, and Petty, 2001). The police need to use observations via videos and music (persuasive communication) before making judgments. In addition, the video and public awareness should be put forth to educate the public on the adverse effects of domestic violence among different genders. The education awareness may help to the members of the public to report the as soon it happens. In addition, it may help to establish the most appropriate strategies for helping the parties affected by the domestic abuse. Some of the measures include counseling them and educating them the importance of handling problems via dialogue rather than violence. Thirdly, adequate arrangements and easy to use types of equipment are handy for successful video recording. Fourthly, the law enforcement agencies and the society at large should be ready to corporate and adopt change by eradicating the issue of domestic abuse in the society. Fifthly, the materials required to watch the videos need to be readily available where the police are. Sixth, having looked at Heuristic-Systematic Model, it is advisable that the content be received and processed systematically as compared to heuristically. The systematic route takes care of social environments, and the problem in hand (men domestic violence) is a social issue. The systematic approach is also the best as it provides the clear judgment. Men will not be judged wrongly through the systematic approach. The weaknesses of the experts will also be for, in the systematic model. The heuristic approach does not account for weaknesses of experts (Bohner, and Wanke, 2002). Reference List Augoustinos, M., Walker, I. and Donaghue, N. (2006). Social Cognition. London: Sage.
