Social media encourage the development of relationships has facilitated success in communication and idea sharing. Web bonding occurs when using the Social Network Sites (SNSs) because it encourages the development of better communication methods as well as include the sharing of political and social issues. Businesses have resorted to use social media in developing brands and encouraging the development of new product. Political change has been instigated through social media activism which is practiced by the when governments do not support the people, or infringes on the rights of the citizens (Benioff). Social media has helped to prove people’s power over the government. Social media has shaped the political dimension of several countries around the world. Some countries have accepted democracy as a result of social media activism and citizen protests. Politics and motivation for change The involvement of citizens on issues of democracy is evident in various governments. Citizens engage in politics in order to open opportunities that are deemed to be infringed by the government. The development of the various active groups responsible for action is based on the ability to link the active groups with the need for democracy. Pro- democracy is based on the ability to highlight the various issues and instigate change in governance (Beverly and Thomson). The democracy of the government can be developed through protests and active engagement of the citizens. Over the years, the monarchies have been overcome by the need for active and democratic governance. The motivation for change can be as a result of poor leadership or leadership that violates the rights of the people. For example, the protest witnessed in the Arab nations was against the established monarchies which are the main areas of concern. The development of democratic states is advocated because it allows for the participation of citizens during the selection of the leaders. Pro- democracy has created changes through the spread of information and activism. Political activism involves the use of demonstration and protest in ensuring the government succumbs to the pressure created by the citizens. The Libyan and Egyptian protests are among the successful protests witnessed that led to changes in governance. The principal purpose of the government is to offer protection of the liberty of the citizens. In the model, citizenry plays a passive role. Compared to participatory democracy, the inherent nature of the citizen of being interested on the performance of the government is neglected under protective democracy. Pluralist democracy arises from the increasing complexity in the political systems under contemporary capitalism. Under the system, the doctrine of separation of powers is replaced by the theory of institutionalism, which is the basis of the pluralistic democracy. Effect of social media in governance change The Syrian uprising news reporting platform differs from the French election reporting due to several issues. First in Syria, the internet usage was barred thus limiting the use of new technology in the spread of information and news across the masses. The Syrian government closed the use of internet in the country with a view of stopping the faster information flow between the citizens. The Syrian uprising was marked with several challenges in the news reporting due to government intimidation and trial to avoid creation of loss of ground by the government. The restrictions affected the number of media platforms that could be employed. The most effective media used during the crisis is the print media due to the ease of usage other forms of media were bottled up by the government. In fact, the use of internet by the citizens was barred and even stopped in order to avert the uprising. The main platform used by the citizens initially was social media, which was closed down when internet usage was closed. The uprising experience greater success during the period of internet use, but closure created a significant challenge for the users leading to the reduction in the momentum of the uprising. The print platform was employed in the reporting process. The print media represented the information in a systematic and appealing approach, so as to increase agitation of the citizen, for the change in the management of the country’s affair (Benioff 23). The difference in the presentation platforms is based on the failure of the government to offer freedom of speech and association. The government of Syria has infringed on all the existing information transfer media to leading to the restriction of information on the magnitude of the crisis. In fact with the closure of the web based communication media, the government affected the revolt momentum and reduced participation of the international community. The impact of web bonding Social media platforms have helped in shaping the life of the people in various ways. Several platforms have been used for the purpose of information sharing. The information shared has varied from elementary to complex depending on the perceived used. Web bonding is a product of the continual communication on social media platforms. Facebook is an outstanding platform in web bonding because it encourages the development of communication and relationship between members of the society. The media use on family relationship needs to be researched on to establish the link between social media and the various methods of communication. The interaction in SNSSs can facilitate community building and between family members in particular. The building of peer relationships is dependent on the bonding and communication resulting from the process. The ability to connect with old friends makes the social platform useful. Citizens of some countries have engaged the social media use in the liberation process. The success of the engagement is based on the ability of the social media to transfer information fast and also allow for instant feedback collection. The instant feedback collection helped in the struggles for change in countries such as Egypt and Libya. However, the crippling of social media usage in Syria made it impossible for communication and web bonding to occur, thus; slowing down the process of liberation (Bishara). Social platform provided the necessary tool for communication and activism leading to the success witnessed in some countries in spearheading regime change. Social media especially the SNSSs help in establishing relations with people outside the family circle while also enabling a wide range of contact. SNS members have the ability to track acquaintances in terms of what their activities and the posting they do or the information they consume. The use of SNS has enabled citizens to be empowered and be able to develop necessary skills for the purpose of the liberation struggle. The success of social media platforms in instigating change in the Middle East The Middle East countries have been governed by dynasties for over centuries. The dynasty practice hereditary leadership style with a serious problem in transparency. The dynasties have created serious challenges in terms of a crippling economy due to over expenditure in luxurious life. The continuous increase in expenditure and taxes facilitated the development of agitation by the public for a change in governance. Some countries registered significant change especially in accepting democracy. Pro- democracy has created changes through the spread of information and activism. Political activism involves the use of demonstration and protest in ensuring the government succumbs to the pressure created by the citizens. The Libyan and Egyptian protest is among the successful protests witnessed that led to changes in governance. The governments or states act to reduce the impact of protest and activism. The actions of the government were tremendously depending on the intensity of activism and the level of involvement of the citizen. Massive involvement of the citizens in the process facilitates the need for drastic action such as using anti- riot police and military force (Taylor 23). Other steps taken by the government include funding of government support groups to facilitate the development of positivity towards the government. For continuity to be maintained in activism, social media platforms have been as a means of communication. The resultant effect of the approach increases public participation. Other media platforms such as Television and Radios do not have independence because they can be controlled by the media (Ghonim 45). However, the social media platform presents an independent and personal view of the situation leading to development of success in news presentation. For example, the protest in a Tahir square in Egypt was facilitated by social media lobbying, which increased awareness of the protests. Social media played a pivotal role in the liberation of the Arab nations. Syria infringed on the rights of communication by shutting down all social media platforms making the transfer of information impossible. Conclusion The social media platform is the next hot item in human liberation movement owing to the advantages associated with the movement. The media has been on the forefront in championing change in the governance and other related issues. The advantages associated with social media platform include the ability to pass information fast and encourage the development of a unified approach. Liberation and governance change in the Middle East and the Arab league has been successful due to social media involvement. In conclusion, social media platform has helped in developing relationships and a wide range of acquaintances in the process facilitating change and activism.
