Respondents completed preliminary electronic surveys and participated in one of three focus groups sampled by the researcher. The findings of the study indicated the existence of high levels of relationship and psychological distress that affected the traveling behavior of war veterans to a great extent. Reactions and coping with their experiences were split along gender lines, with females reporting frightening emotions and males reporting disgust or annoyance to memories of their war exploits.

As reported by Boscarino (2006), veterans returned with significant emotional demands. The need for social and emotional support emerged paramount to all the victims. The study concludes that close family members of the war veterans are equally negatively impacted by the war and are all struggling to cope with their plights to no avail. Since attempts at help-seeking are unsuccessful, the study recommends that training for support groups such as clinicians, school counselors, and physicians to address the needs of this population is more fundamental than anything else (Waldeck et al, 2008).
