The above statistics and conclusions clearly point towards genetic factors involved in homosexuality. Even though the percentage has slight differences, both identical twins and fraternal twins shows the tendency of becoming homosexuals if they genetic elements of homosexuality.
The possibility of existence of homosexuality gene is widely discussed at present. “Although biologists are still far from answering this question, scattered evidence for a possible gene influencing sexual orientation has recently encouraged scientists to map out a guide to future research” (Is there a homosexuality gene?). Even though, such a gene has not been discovered yet, many of the biologists are confident of identifying such a gene which will answer all the questions related to the reasons of homosexuality.
“Writing in the scientific journal Archives of Sexual Behavior, researchers from Queen Marys School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, and Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm report that genetics and environmental factors are important determinants of homosexual behavior” (Homosexual behavior due to genetics and environmental factors). Homosexuality is common in military. This is not because of genetic factors, but because of the environmental factors. Soldiers are not getting any opportunities for heterosexual activities and they will rely on homosexuality for relieving their sexual energy. Sexual activities are not only a biological need, but also a psychological need. If not relived properly, sexual energy can create immense problems to the living things.

But, now people are ready to reveal their homosexual behaviors publicly because of the increased acceptance of homosexuality in our society. In any case, the reason for homosexuality is a highly debated topic.
There is a lot of literature that talks about the homosexuality in the Greeks and the Romans. For example, the Emperor Nero in ancient Rome twice got married to men (Kulkarni, 2011). The Holy Books also discuss some nations that were punished for being homosexual. In the contemporary age, homosexuals are spread all over the world. Several countries have legalized homosexuality.
In this case, there has been a wide variation of the opinions expressed by different individuals. One opinion that captured my attention was in the New York Times newspaper on January 28 2012 by Frank Bruni.
Homosexuality or the so-called gender switching also made researchers interested on how these abnormality came about. Particularly, they are curious on how did it came about because it is not normal for a person to be attracted to same sex or assume a gender personality that is not different from one’s natural biological gender.
As Cavendish (2010), points out, during those days, laws were enacted, which stipulated harsh penalties including death penalties for persons found guilty of homosexuality. Nevertheless, some mixed reactions started in the late eighteenth century when there emerged some activists endorsing the acceptance of homosexuality in the society.
