Analysis of the 9/11 Event - Essay Example

 Thesis: The 9/11 event is famous for changing the world upside down. The events that unfolded on that fateful day brought to the fore a number of problems which have to date been unresolved. Terrorism came in the wake of the 9/11 event and hence the world suffered on more than a single count. Essay: The 9/11 event changed the face of this world. One can easily suggest that there were a number of wrongs which came up with this worldwide phenomenon that we now know by the name of September 11th bombings on the superpower nation of the world – the United States of America. 9/11 brought to the fore the harsh realities which plummeted upon the world. It brought with it a number of negatives which were hidden beneath the forces that ruled the world. America was exposed and that too for all the wrong reasons. People from different age brackets experienced an event of such a huge magnitude which they had never seen in their entire lives. This is the epitome of the kind of distress which they experienced first hand, and no one was barred with such a horrible feeling to have within his/her folds. 9/11 event was disastrous because it changed people’s beliefs, raised their convictions that terrorism was a global sin and told them that life in the wake of achieving peace was the most significant thing. It also made the people realize that they should enact measures and means through which such events could be curtailed in the future. My friend experienced the same emotions whilst she was in school. She was amazed to know that the school was called off early that day and her aunt dropped her to her cousin’s place. She longed to go to her own home but since the atmosphere was much horrific, she ended up getting to her place quite late. There were pictures being shown on television that suggested that America was under attack. The planes were hitting the north and the south towers of the World Trade Center. It was such a horrible feeling that people were left high and dry when it came to finding an explanation for the same. My friend was very depressed because she had never seen such a thing happening in her entire life. Even though she was very young, but the pictures that were being shown on television would easily have been classified as adult content since there were violent images being projected at that very moment. Had this been a film or a television serial, her parents would have surely taken her off the television set, but this was reality which was dawning upon the young and old, the rich and the not so rich, and just about everyone. She also narrated the ordeal that she had to face that day. Since she was 13 years old and hailed from an Arabic background, this event marred her life as well as the people who were near and dear to her. They were hurled abuses and racial slurs left, right and center. All sorts of racist comments were made on them because they were Muslims and came from an Arabian descent. My friend knew that this was not right and something somewhere was taking place in a very negative manner. The people who were named Osama were asked to change their names and the girls who used to wear veils had to forego the same so that they could reside easily within America. There were hate attitudes being cultivated within America and it would not be wrong to suggest that this has been happening to date as well. Another event with a middle aged woman who had a son flying from Europe to Michigan. His plane was to have a stopover at New York before embarking further ahead. Ever since she came to know that the towers have been struck, her heart started pounding faster by the second. Fortunately for her, she received a phone call from her son that he was safe and sound. He had to wait quite a while before he could join his mother. However this woman understood that she was seriously lucky and that there were many people who were yet to receive phone calls from their loved ones. She had a sense of empathy for all of them but felt very angry that whatever was happening within America at that moment in time was not right and someone had to put down his foot and stop the rot once and for all. America was under siege and leaders had to play their active roles within the thick of things. She believed that the terrorists had plans which were unfair to the humanity because these innocent people had got nothing to do with their evil intentions. There were people who lost their families, their kids, their parents and so on. No one should have allowed them the liberty to go ahead and play such a cruel havoc with the human beings, their properties, etc. Other nations have also faced similar problems in the past. The case of Vietnam is one that comes to mind. Many people lost their lives and belongings when wars were struck on it. Similar is the case of Bosnia and Chechnya where wars had come about in the late 1990s. These wars happened before the 9/11 event took place and had a far flung effect on the global landscape. These wars were raged in a manner which is only shameful of the ways and means through which authorities were misused time and again. These countries suffered on quite a few counts and thus it would be fitting to suggest that Bosnia was at the helm of much destruction and wrath before it became a sovereign state. The people who suffered still have lingering memories of the kind of effects that they experienced, all of which could be remarked as downright negative and very tumultuous. The 9/11 event was very destructive for the sake of this earth. It brought trouble and tension to the peoples of the world. They forgot to smile for a number of months since the tyranny of the terrorists was much to decipher. Their intentions were non-understandable and Osama bin Laden gained instant recognition but in a very negative way. He was and still is the number one terrorist of the world who can bring about death and destruction for his ulterior motives. Perhaps America realizes this anomaly and is doing its utmost to tackle such problems in a head on manner. What is needed now is a sense of purpose as different nationals of the 210 countries of the world look up to the superpower nation of the world for help and facilitation. This is the reason why America is seen as a successful country in the comity of nations. It has the best form of democracy applicable within its lengths and breadths and people realize today that it can change the course of the world within minutes, if only it sets down its foot on the gas paddle. The 9/11 event therefore brings to light a number of lessons for mankind to acquire, most important of which is the understanding that humanity reigns supreme and terrorism needs to be shown the door once and for all. Lastly it would be proper to suggest that 9/11 event gave people something new to think about. It offered them alternatives which were unthinkable before the event actually took place. However the world has changed immensely ever since this unfortunate event came about on the face of the earth. Read More
