There shall be conducted a detailed study that shall study these changing relationships and look at the reasons for the changing trends in life style. It shall attempt to make detailed observations for the changes that are taking place in the behaviour of human beings, try to realize the factors for these changes through a conduct of a study based on a prepared questionnaire. The study shall be based on two age groups and shall look at the difference in gender, class, economic background and other such factors. Introduction: There has, in the past years emerged a more complex image of the man in the society and in the world. A person today is expected to fulfil a number of roles, including that of a responsible employee, the family member, the individual himself or herself and the social member. There have emerged new complexities with each of these roles that one has to fulfil. The pressures that are experienced by individuals that are experienced by men and women today stem from different reasons and factors such as the expectations that the individuals have of themselves (Yaremko, Lawson 2007). These responsibilities include the responsibilities that are attached to various individuals by families and the society, the changing trends and beliefs that have developed with the changing life styles; the traditional beliefs of what a person should do, self-realisation, etc. Many of the psychologists have observed that over the years, there has been a change in the role that a person plays and the number of them that one plays at a given point of time. For example, today it is considered normal for a mother to also be working and looking after the household, a student to also be working part time and other such instances where the same individual plays a plethora of roles and has a number of responsibilities at the same time. This study shall be observing the group of people that have been defined as ‘the emerging adults’ by psychologists (Munsey Monitor Staff Pg 68). This term was coined by Jeffery Jensen Arnett and he used this phase to describe the age group, which extends from 18 to 29. He believed that this age group was important as this was where individuals make the transition from being adolescent to becoming adults and they make all the lifetime choices that shape their futures. This age group is essential in the framing of the life goals and the path that one has to follow. In the recent years, the trend that has developed is one where it has been observed that this age group performs and fulfil a number of roles and obligations and there are a number of responsibilities that have to be faced and tackled. There is seen that the work and the study life impose upon the private life of an individual and these are believed to be closely related to each other. Many psychologists are of the belief that gender of a person also affects the decisions that are made by individuals at this stage of life. Methodology: The methodology that has been adopted by the research group is one where here shall be individuals who shall be questioned through a survey that shall be conducted in cities. The survey shall be carried out through interviews and prepared questionnaires shall be handed out to individuals to fill out. There shall be five individuals whose answers shall be taken into considerations and based on these observations will be made and conclusions shall be reached. The methodology shall look at the age group that extends from 19 to 28 and this will also look at the gender division of society and the differences in the social responsibility and the expectations and life goals that individuals make. The study focuses on various important factors but mainly it looks at the various roles that an individual has and the balance that one has to find between these various roles. It also looks at the importance of careers in the lives of individuals and the various problems, tensions and conflicts that one comes with in relation to fulfilling these goals and objectives. Data Analysis: The main theme that has been adopted by the study is to establish the relationship between the individual’s work and career. It also aims to look at the tertiary study that one may e doing and how the two roles that the individual plays adds or subtracts to the rest of his or her roles that they play and affect the future that the person wants to adopt and follow. The study shall refer to various case studies that have been adopted in the past and shall also look at the various studies that have been conducted over time to analyse the human behaviour. The other sources of information that the study will draw from other than the interviews that were conducted are from journals and the existing thesis and theories that exist that pertain to the subject matter. The structuring of the study that was conducted was as such that the target group was those who are students and working either part time or hold regular jobs (BetterHealth Chanels). It shall look at the existing tensions that exist due to the individual playing these multiple roles and how one role is impingent upon the other. Discussion of Key Themes: The first question that the study looks into is the importance of careers in the lives of the individual and the role that it plays. The answer of this was seen to vary from different ages and also there was seen a change in the answer due to change in the economic status of an individual and the gender (Tertiary Education Union). It was observed that career was a very important factor in the lives of most individuals and it was recorded that theses were rather high on the priority list. However, there was observed that in those who had a background of a higher economic background it came lower in the list than for those who came from a lower economic group. The next important question was whether those who were pursuing tertiary studies were doing so due to interest or due to furthering their career prospectives. The response that was received was that most were studying further to enhance their careers. It was observed that career was an important factor and that wile pursuing a ob one was studying along to ensure that the future perspectives of the person was better and that there was a better access to opportunities for advancement and growth and development. The general trend that was observed in this age group is that there are experienced various tensions due to different relations and roles that each individual fulfils. It has been generally observed that for this age group there are various integrations of the tension that are experienced at the work place and at home. It is particularly true in the cases of females who believe that they face many pressures from both the work centre as well as the family. There has been observed that the importance of family and personal relationships is also high among this age group. This is especially true for the females that were interviewed. Although it was recorded that most of the males who were surveyed said that family and personal relationship was important it was given a back seat in comparison to career and studies while it was seen that for females a fairly large number said that although careers were of high significance family was more important. Nevertheless, in both the cases it was seen that careers as well as family and personal relationships were important factors in the lives of individuals. When the question asked if there was observed any problems or tensions in maintaining the balance between the public life and the private life the response was mainly in the positive and it was observed that in most cases there existed serious issues that dealt with the lack of balance between the family life and the career. This is especially true in cases where the individuals are engaged in both activities that is studying as well as in working. This is seen to add to the strain that is observed by these individuals in comparison to those who are engaged in either only one of the two activities and not in both. Many o the those who were interviewed complained that there was no time left for a personal life after being engaged in both , a job as well as classes and that it led to alienation from friends and family and led to feelings of isolation and loneliness. There has been seen and observed that those who are engaged in both the activities often complain of stress and hypertension. It also leads to seclusion from peers as well as family members, and there has been observed a common complain about lack of time and constrain on the activities (Hammer, Grisby, Woods 1998 Pg 220-226). It has been observed that despite of these the age group is engaged in self-realization and in the discovery of the individual self and being. There is a bid made to discover the importance of one’s lifestyle and one adopts the future path. There is also made choices as to which career one wants to pursue and there is made changes in the goals of one’s life and how one aims to pursue it. The social factors and the economic factors as well as other factors all play a significant role in the decisions that are made by individuals. Conclusion: The report in conclusion can observe that there are important factors that have to be taken into account when realising the objectives and aims of an individual. The personal and public life of an individual are both important and there has to be a clear balance that has to be achieved between he two. In cases where the focus is only on career and studies there are increased incidences of isolation and depression. In other cases where a person’s ambitions are subjugated due to family obligations there is again observed dissatisfaction as well as depression.
