Good is beautiful: The Halo effect and whether wearing glasses makes one look more intelligent Abstract This study was done to determine if there is any significant relationship between physical appearance and the perceived traits ascribed to an individual based on physical appearance. It also seeks to find out if one desirable trait observed in an individual automatically makes the observer deem them as having other desirable traits or one undesirable trait makes the observer deem the test subject as having other undesirable traits a phenomenon known as the halo effect (Thorndike, 1920). In the first part of the experiment, we try to find if there is any significant difference in attractiveness between two people. If there is we then attempt to test and measure for the halo effect on other traits such as ambition, success and popularity.
