Reflective Write-ups (Psychology-Sport) Name Course Name and Code Instructor’s Name Date Select three long-term motivational strategies that you personally consider would be particularly effective on you and explain why for each strategy selected. Through motivation, there can be a great deal of improvement in performance. Motivation has been defined as the combination of one’s desires as well as energy, which are all directed in achieving a certain goal. In other words, it is what causes a certain action to be taken. In order to influence people’s motivation then it means to get them to do what you actually want them to do. It should be noted that not all people are motivated by the same things to perform. This is whereby the issue of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation comes in. some people are motivated from within themselves while other have to be externally motivated through rewards and other things. In most cases an employee knows perfectly well what it takes to gave an excellent performance but still chooses not to give the best for reasons known best to him However, it has been discovered that it is the personal inherent problems rather than the challenges in the work place that interferes with ones ability to work and give better results. These motivational personal problems ranges from the pressure in the family, lack of the understanding of the effects of behaviour to other people and personal conflicts. The following are the three long-term motivational strategies I have personally considered to be effective on me. Cognitive theory as a strategy is basically a conscious control of the thoughts. This is whereby I will consciously get motivated to do something. My studies are for instance motivated by a personal and a willing decision. Another strategy is the Hull theory. Which is the motivation to ensure one meets his or her basic physiological like the need for food due to hunger, the thirst as well as the fatigue. My motivation and especially to always take the right food or a good balanced food will be motivated by this strategy. This will be helpful to me since whenever I will be thirsty, instead of taking unhealthy drinks I can always go for the healthiest. Instead of taking sodas I can take milk or natural fruit juice. The last strategy will be based on the Skinner theory of motivation. This is whereby one ensures that no matter what his or her pursuit must be positive responses in life. In my life I will encounter all types of hardships but the best motivating way to look forward for a new day is having positive responses in life. When there is a crisis of finances, I will ensure that I keep a positive attitude. It is obvious that whatever any person does there can be a positive or a negative outcome but the best thing s to keep a positive expectation. This will ensure that one never loses the will to try again and again irrespective of a probability for a negative outcome. This will save me the stresses and distress of life. Reflect on your score in the questionnaire, how the score relates to you, and share an example of the result and how you see the result lining up to how you react to competition. The results of the questionnaire are relates to me. To be able to relate the comparison well I will briefly share my schools work and my experiences in school. My course is a very demanding one and as usual I like keeping a record of all the things happening during the semester so that I can have a good track record and be able to follow up on my progress. During the semester, I was keeping journals as usual. In my journal contents, as I was reviewing my journal at the mid of the semester, I realized that I had three problems which were a serious bother to me since they were interfering with my behaviour in a very great way. There were three main issues which were of very great concern as far as I was concerned. The first main problem was lack of confidence during presentation. In my records I had recorded several times about some disgracing moments which happened to me during a presentation. Another problem was shyness in class. This problem raised a number of times during the semester. I realized that many are the times I could not even have the guts to stand before the class to make an announcement. Finally, I realized that I was losing courage to face my exams. During all the exams that I took that semester there is none that I took confidently. In many ways the scores of the scores relates to my life. My course entails a lot of class or group presentation. Whereby, one is required to write a research on a given topic and then present it in front of the class. The work could be done in a group but one member to present it. I realized that many of times on getting in front of the class I would seriously stammer. At times I would even find myself sweating so much and on top of that most of the times, I would really feel so embarrassed by the whole situation. This issue had really affected my behaviour so much. I had totally lacked self esteem and actually, I realized that anytime I we would be having a presentation in class I would make up an excuse of not turning up for the lesson. Actually, I had even developed behaviour of lying. Many are the times I lied that I was not feeling well so as to get an excuse for not attending the lesson. The issue of shyness too had really initiated a behaviour change in my life. I realized that I could not even look straight into people’s eyes and say something to them. This had also led to a very embarrassing situation whereby, I would find myself not in a position to finish a statement once I started it. I felt that no body believed in me anymore or rather everyone who was listening to me found me so boring. I felt unwanted and totally not appreciated. As a result, I had attained a tendency of segregating myself. I also started avoiding all of my friends. This was very serious since the people I was avoiding, are the same people I needed most in my academics. I no longer participated in discussion groups, there are days we would go for the discussion and I would without saying a word. My mind was totally withdrawn and there was no interest in anything anymore. Think about your own anger, and reflective on an incident from a time when you were struggling to keep your anger instrumental rather than hostile. The issue of shyness too had really initiated a behaviour change in my life. I realized that I could not even look straight into people’s eyes and say something to them. I no longer participated in discussion groups, there are days we would go for the discussion and I would without saying a word. My mind was totally withdrawn and there was no interest in anything anymore. Apart from the behaviour of avoiding people, I noticed that I had developed another, tendency of being so hostile to people. Many of my friends complained about the whole issue of my character change and personality change. Some mistook me to be so proud while other thought that the course had become too hard for me such that I could not handle it anymore. This whole situation on, affected my moods in that I would be so gloomy through out. On top of that, I physical suffered some effects. My weight all over sudden went down. It is actually very funny that I would for some days go without food. Generally my health started to decline. I also started suffering from some issues of hormonal imbalance. The hostility was as a result of emotions of anger that was caused by the frustrations I was going through. I have to work hard to deal with the issues. As I applied all those corrective measures, I realized that I could actually somehow manage to do a presentation in front of the class without having to stammer at all. On top of that, I realized that the problem of shyness had been completely eliminated and at that particular time, I could confront any situation without having to fell any fear in me. Actually before, the therapy was even finished I felt that at least I had recovered part of my own self. The issue of mood swings was no longer there. Actually a started enjoying other people’s company instead of what used to happen earlier. This reflective write up is about the skills and strategies I used when trying to concentrate on the sound of the projector and how well they worked. (Play a sound from the projector and try to concentrate without distraction). It should be noted that concentration paves way for an appropriate attention both to the external and the internal cues. It refers to that specific effort as well as stigma that will maintain the focus of the most relevant cues and from the millions other signals that the senses pick up. Personally I realized through the playing of the projector sound that I was easily affected by the easily distracted during the learning process. But I also noted that my behaviour at that time resembled that of the children who have some form of special needs or some disabilities. This is because in the case whereby a child tends to be distracted by some of the issues away from the computer the available sound or voice prompts are used to bring back their attention to the learning process. There are times when the distractions acted as a way to bring me back to concentration. I used special software to solve the challenge. Software to solve all those problems is important. This explains why letter learn software is one of the best for that. It is basically software that can be used for the purposes of learning how to type the letters. It is very easy to apply and especially by the children with special needs. It is very useful in the following ways; recognition of letters as well as naming, spelling, key board familiarity, English as a second language, teaching languages other than English and the use of a computer and especially for the first timers. Some of the activity options for the software includes; spelling of the words form the given image, copying of the letters that are in the words and then reward is given of an image and typing of he letters. The following are the features that are available; voice prompts, the use of child names for prompts, Australian accent, creation of the custom list of words for every child, and addition of personal images. This reflective write up is about my competitive situation imagery and controlling outcomes. (In response to the 3 page questionnaire about imagery) Intentional and structured internalized rehearsal which basically involved very precise multisensory representations and especially of the experience that is being imagined by athlete. If one creates an image of victory in his or her mind then that will be helpful in achieving success. However, it has been discovered that it is the personal inherent problems. Rather than the challenges in the work place that interferes with ones ability to work and give better results. These motivational personal problems ranges from the pressure in the family, lack of the understanding of the effects of behaviour to other people and personal conflicts. As a result of the above issues, one can end up creating some imagery. Some of the ways that images are created in one’s mind is through sight, touch, hearing, smell, taste, emotions, thoughts and sound execution. It is important for any person to ensure that the creation of images in his or her mind is put under control in the following ways; realism, relaxation and self control. The main aim of keeping one’s mental images right is because they are part of the greatest determinants of individual’s motivation. They are also important because they help one to create emotional shifts and create a sense of meaning in one’s life. They also enables one to learn new skills, manage stress if they are positive ones, reduces anxiety, enhances one’s confidence, helps one to come up with plans as well as strategies to solve some problems or improve situations. The process of creating some images in the mind can either be helpful or not. This means that one must be careful of which kind of images to allow in his or her mind. Read More
