The LGBT community has been place-bound and significant in giving a sense of identity and belongingness to the stigmatized and marginalized groups in society.  There has been the potential for significant coming together as a community to create commonality and strength in numbers in pushing for social changes.  The shared ritual practices such as the pride events support the notion of a feeling of a community.   Therefore, the community unites LGBT members (Anu, 2012).

Brought up in a society that does not recognize LGBT did not give a substantial touch to my social life.  The community nurtured and contributed to the teachings on societal guiding principles, which apply to genders.  Therefore, the relevance of the experience acquired in my community positively molded me into a social being.  Together with the general principles of morality and life enhancement roles, society played a significant role in bringing me up. It also opened a door to the external world, where self-identification came into play (Anu, 2012).

I am satisfied with my sense of connection to the LGBT community and my community.  The two communities have played a substantial role in an understanding of the relevance of having a sense of belonging.  The current move by every member of society, being a member of LGBT or not, embraces the fact that there is a need to recognize and respect each sexual orientation.  There has been adorable and satisfying support from the LGBT community (Anu, 2012).

It is important to have a sense of belonging in a community as it helps to combat isolation and improves the well-being of an individual.  The feeling of belonging heightens self-esteem of emotional well-being and mental health and contributes to physical health.  People identify themselves with where they belong.  Therefore, a sense of belonging gives people a sense of identity (Anu, 2012).
