Download file to see previous pages ADHD is a neurobiological state in childhood, and a child with ADHD has difficulties in having attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. ADHD is the most common behavior disorder in elementary school age. Conduct disorder and ADHD have the same symptoms which are strong predictors of substance use and abuse in adolescence and adulthood. In dealing with ADHD, researchers had to clearly define and focus on the factors causing the disease.
Another behaviour disorder discussed was psychopathy, considered a lifelong disorder. Recent studies focused on ‘juvenile psychopathy’ which examines the relationship between psychopathy and other forms of social deviance, or psychopathy as a cause of violent behavior among children and youth. Autism is a disorder of the connections between brain systems; this means autism is variable. The Young-Bramham Programme (2012) delivers to the therapist and patient innovative and intensive therapy. The Elton Report (1989, Education in England) recommended various measures for childhood problem behaviours, such as altering building designs which affected the pupils’ behaviour in schools.
The Elton Report was formulated to address teachers’ problems in schools, among them the aggressive behaviour of children. Evidence showed that there were rare attacks made by pupils on teachers in schools but the teachers’ concerns were more on trivial and persistent misbehavior by pupils. Children were becoming more aggressive. Teachers should constantly acquire in-service training to become effective. Schools should develop plans to promote good behaviour in pupils. Building designs, features and installed structures affected the behaviour of children. Finally, disciplinary measures must be given to deal with misbehavior of pupils.
It is important to be clear on what behaviour actually means, as behaviour is not just a word but a complicated concept. The term behaviour is difficult to define. However, behaviour has been defined by Endoo (2012, p.83) as the “specific actions and/or reactions of the individual in relation to environmental stimuli, either conscious or unconscious” that drives mannerisms and conduct. ...Download file to see next pages Read More
