Human infants vary in their sensitivity to external stimuli like light and noise, their level of physical activity, adaptability to schedules and similar traits. Traits such as shyness or novelty-seeking are in part determined by the biology of the brain and the genes inherited from parents. Childhood experience occupies much of the portion to ascribe any personality disorder. Various aspects of childhood experience form part of it. People’s relationships are strongly influenced by their early childhood experiences.

Schemas derived from childhood experiences are assimilated in later experiences by earlier schemas. This has well been emphasized in Cognitive-Experiential Self-Theory (CEST). (Epstein, 2003:167).
