Behavior modification plan - Essay Example

Your full June 9, Reflection Paper 2 The behavior that I want to modify is staying up late inthe night. I want to decrease this behavior because it is affecting the amount of sleep that I require to stay fresh in the mornings. It is also affecting my academic performance as I stay awake till very late at nights, and thus, I cannot get up fresh for school. I almost stay awake all nights in the week and not just weekends. Sometimes, I stay awake to watch movies. At other times, I hand out with my friends.

I plan to use positive reinforcement as my behavior modification plan. Positive reinforcement includes rewards and gifts at the end of an expression of positive behavior. This encourages one to enhance positive behavior. I plan to go to bed at 9pm sharp every night except weekends. I plan to reward myself with a movie ticket at the cinema at the weekends if I go to bed early in weekdays. I chose this reward because I am very much into movies, and I like to watch movies at the cinema especially.

I think this plan will definitely work because scientists have found positive reinforcement to be a very effective method of behavior modification. One starts doing well for the lust of rewards and benefits. If I find that I am not being successful, I will consult my elders to change the reinforcer to going out on a picnic with family on weekends. I believe that the modification will take one month to reach maintenance.
