Man and Woman Sexuality School The repertoires of sexuality required for both men and women might be interpreted differently.The point is that both genders create a lot of demands for each other and for some reasons they all rarely understand one another’s requirements. This probably happens because men and women usually have huge interpretational gaps and they can’t get what the other party wants from them. The two articles describe the demands for repertoires of sexuality for both genders and in different ways depict men’s and women’s natures and relationships between the genders. The interpretative repertoires of sexuality constructed in the articles reveal certain similarities and differences in men’s and women’s natures. The article “10 Things Men Wish Women Knew About Sex” points on the feature of men’s nature that demands maintenance of a man’s self-esteem, especially the part of it that is engaged with his sexual capability and physical strength (Tapley 2013). The author claims that in order to please a man a young woman needs to praise him and pay attention on his sexual needs. Thus sexuality and physical skills play crucial role in demands to women’s repertoires of sexuality. As far as author reveals that men fear intimacy women should be aware of it and do their best to maintain masculinity in their men by increasing their own femininity (which is expected to be more of emotional expression from women). The article “10 Little Known Sex Tips Every Better Lover Ought to Know” shows us the little secrets men need to know about women’s preferences in sex that would make its reader a better lover. In fact this article focuses on the point that women are emotional creatures and in order to be loved by them men need to appeal to their feelings and emotionality, for instance, by demonstrating their admiration and feelings, dominating and holding of initiative (Gerald n.d.). But the most important feature a man needs is to be sensitive and feel how to act on behalf of his woman. The both articles in fact complete each other’s points; thus if a man is dominant, a woman should be more concessive and vice versa. The interpretative repertoires of femininity and masculinity described in the articles can be traced in the advices that the authors give to their readers. Thus it turns out that in order to satisfy either men or women the opposite gender needs to appeal to the other’s natural features by understanding the needs and essence of the other. For example, if a woman is sensitive and emotional by her nature and a man is more self-centered and physically directed, in order to bring pleasure to each other they should partly give up on their own interests for other’s sake. If men need physical pleasure and acceptance, women have to reduce their feelings-centered demands and concentrate on being sexual attractive (Tapley 2013). Concerning men they’d better to give up on their desire to satisfy their physical needs and try paying attention on women’s wishes by being more emotional. So woman’s role here is to be acceptable and give her men some space to express himself; although it doesn’t mean that she has to suppress her sensitivity, but vice versa she needs to be frank with the men. When men’s gender role is engaged with being both dominant and gentle; furthermore, there is a claim that men are expected to perform well in bed, so they also hold responsibility for the quality of the process (Gerald n.d.), when women’s role here has less expectations. Actually the two articles point on the responsibilities both genders hold within the scopes of their relationships apart from sex and they strictly concern the typical understanding of gender roles which depict men as more aggressive and dominant and women as more soft and flexible. The ways that young men and women are positioned within the interpretative repertoires of sexuality in fact reveal their roles in men-women relationships in general. The point is that even though the articles mostly talk about sex and physical satisfaction, in fact they describe the intrinsic features of the both genders’ natures that demand certain actions from the opposite gender. Young woman is positioned as sensitive and is supposed to be feminine and allow her man to express himself in bed. She has to maintain his physical capabilities by praising him and understanding his desires, because he fears intimacy and it is woman who is supposed to help him overcome his fears. She also has to be loyal to his aggressiveness and domination. Young man in turn is positioned as selfish and physically-centered kind of personality; he is the alpha in relationships but not the dreadful repressive leader but a slight one. That’s why his purpose is to learn how to be more sensitive, because women need this approach to obey his needs. An interesting thing about these articles is that they both are written by men, so, reading them more carefully, it becomes clear that they both give advices to men and women how they are supposed to act to make pleasure to men. The main points that I have learned about the cultural resources of sexuality is that the natural gender roles are definitely preserved in all men and women of all times. Even though nowadays society is rapidly moving to emancipation and gender equality, still all these things don’t destroy the desires that men and women have in their natures. Men need women’s acceptance and demand them to be physically attractive, so what women need to know about men mostly concerns men’s physical wishes and need to maintain their self-esteem. The rules described in the article “10 Little Known Sex Tips Every Better Lover Ought to Know” in fact are universal and timeless, because it seems like in all times women just wanted to be weaker and beloved.
