Stress Reflection Paper Introduction Stress is part of human beings, and it is very hard to overcome them. Hence, the best option is to develop strategies that can help in such situations. I have been stressed many times and unable to avoid them making me overcome them with the coping strategies. One of the stressful events I underwent lately was when I was demoted from my part-time job. Stress affected me before developing mechanisms to help deal with it. Therefore, I will discuss how I used Selyes GAP, my facial expression, coping mechanism, and professional impact it had on me.
SummaryWhen I received the sad news that I was demoted from the position held for some time, my body reacted following Selyes General Adaptation Syndrome (GAP). My body labeled the stressor as danger to balance making it release adrenaline hormone. As a result, I performed unfamiliar activities such as crying because of the pain. This was the alarm stage (Caroline & Hicks, 2007). The second phase was of reaction was resistance. My body had reacted to the bad news, and it was time to calm down and lower the production of the stress hormone.
My body shifted to the second stage, because the stress was no longer active as before. Finally, I entered the exhaustion stage since the stress persisted, and body started losing ability to fight stressors due to insufficient energy. Hence, I had to stay calm.During this time, I displayed different facial expressions. My face was frozen because of the mood. I was not happy, and one could judge from the face. I was dull and silent most of the time as I remembered the situation I was involved.
As time went by, I developed coping mechanism. I regularly started exercising so that I that I do not think about the stressor. I also went to bed early since I used to feel tired hence the need to relax. Additionally, I ensured I ate healthy food to make me active and concentrate on the important things. Maravelas (2012) support these coping strategies. However, the stressful events influenced my professionalism and created relationship conflicts with others. It reduced my productivity at the workplace, and I felt others overlooked me due to demotion.
This made me develop a grudge with workmates. I also left work very early because I was unhappy making me rubs shoulders with my supervisor.AnalysisStress is not good and should be avoided at all cost. It creates or leads to many health problems such as sleep problems, heart diseases, body pain, depression, weight problems, and skin problems (Caroline & Hicks, 2007). Therefore, avoiding stress can relieve one from all these. My future goals are to avoid stress because of adverse impacts realized.
Similarly, I will teach or pass the information to others to relieve themselves from the stressful situations they undergo. Despite all these negatives, the situation motivated me to start a new life and settle with what I had. It also helped to develop new strategies to deal with stressful situations.ConclusionFollowing my situation, I learned the different stages of stress according to Selyes GAS. It is important to control stress at the early stages because its impacts worsen. Similarly, the coping mechanisms are important as it also helps one to devise new ways of doing things.
