Strategic and Systematic Therapies Strategic and Systematic Therapies Strategic therapy aims at initiating what happens during atherapy session and designs a particular and concrete approach to each problem (Kolko, Iselin, & Gully, 2011). Systematic, on the other hand, deals with the systematic context rather than the isolated behavior. Both therapies must identify the solvable problem, set goals, and design intervention to achieve those objectives. Systematic and strategic therapist are divided into four branches.

Namely Mental Research Institute therapist, Hale style therapist, Madaness therapist, and Milan style routine therapist.Mental Research Institute is a type of therapy interested in family communication pattern and feedback loop mechanisms. According to Niolon (1999), MRI states that positive feedback is responsible for the rise in problems or deviant behaviors in families. It happens when parents try to solve a problem and end up maintaining or worsening the problem. In the case of Jose, according to this theory, he believes that staying indoors is better than staying out.

The family attempt to persuade him to stay outdoors in the bid to solve his problem, confirms to him that staying indoors is better hence his desire to stay indoors is amplified. In order to address this issue, according to MRI theory, the therapist should identify the feedback loop, that is, what makes Jose stay indoors. Find the reasons why Jose decides to stay indoors by determining the rules governing his desire to stay indoors. They should finally change the loops and norms in order to transformation this behavior (Niolon 1999).

The primary aim of the MRI is to get Jose out of the house since his parents’ attempts proved futile.Secondly, in Hale and Mad theory, both Haley and Madanes argue that problems are caused and maintained by faulty family organization (Kolko, Iselin, & Gully, 2011). Hale argued that not only the symptoms of a problem were to be looked at when correcting a problem, but also the family set up that led to the problem. According to the theory of Hale-Madaness, problems and deviant behaviors are as a result of faulty family organization and poor relationships (Dattilio, 2012).

According to Hale, Jose’s problem is as a consequence of a strained relationship with the family members. Madanes, on the other hand, believes Jose’s problem could be a way of trying to change his parents’ behavior. In addition, he also says that Jose’s problem could be resulting from a desire to control or dominate the family or be loved by the parents. They prescribe change of household organization to solve Jose’s problem. In addition, the therapist must identify the social situation that necessitates the problem.

With the problem known, the family and the therapist must come up with a solution.Lastly, Milan systematic theory suggests that families need to be helped to understand their problems and causes of the problems. With the knowledge of their problems, they would be able to find better ways or organizing and finding solutions to them. Further, they believed that symptoms served as a protective function. According to this theory, Jose’s problem is due to superiority struggle in the family and he has to stay at home and help one of the family members to win.

In order to help Jose, Milan theory suggests that the therapist should focus solely on the family history and organization (Dattilio, 2012). They should identify the power struggle that makes Jose stay at home and correct it. ReferencesDattilio, F. M. (2012). Cognitive-Behavioral Family Therapy.
