A person’s sexual identity is often different from their gender identity and expressions.  This research paper, therefore, describes the long-term effects psychologically of individual gender and sexual identities.

Domestic violence is one of the most devastating social problems. It is usually about one person getting and keeping power and control over another person in an inclusively intimate relationship (Pope & Vasquez, 2007). Domestic violence cycles may occur in the form of sexual, physical, or emotional abuse. The incident occurs, tension builds and finally, there is a making-up stage through these cycles. The cycle can occur very many times in any form of an abusive relationship (Pope & Vasquez, 2007).  Each of these stages takes different periods thus affecting those undergoing domestic violence psychologically and emotionally. The emotional effects of domestic violence through these cycles have resulted in a suicidal commitment by those undergoing massive domestic violence. Children experiencing or witnessing domestic violence as a form of child abuse or neglect may have a long hard time interacting freely with others because of a psychologically acquired inferiority complex. Domestic violence damages the sense of self. The individuals undergoing brutal domestic violence may decide to retaliate some days and these are some of the worst retaliatory attacks experienced worldwide. These negative impacts of domestic violence emotionally and psychologically, therefore, make it very important to counsel individuals undergoing domestic violence (Pope & Vasquez 2007). Making up would be necessary to help the individuals undergoing domestic violence regain their lost self-esteem. Additionally, an individual’s self-image is often distorted because of domestic violence. Therefore, through counseling in the making-up stage of the cycle, both the violent individuals and those undergoing the vice should be brought together and understand the whole concept of domestic violence.

In summary, to some individuals, domestic violence is an acquired trait. Sociological processes play major roles in the upbringing of people. Violently nurtured families even through the making-up process, the effect of this erroneous act cannot be forgotten. Socially, these families are not well brought up with respect for humanity as they are always violent as a result of the traits the children acquire from their parents at an early age. Psychologically, the children as well are not free to interact with their colleagues, and in some cases, they suffer from mental problems. Physically, individuals who have undergone extreme cases of domestic violence easily attacks
